SIN TOR RI UM

Jesus in his teaching likens one thing to another and used analogies to illustrate his truths.

In the same vein I would compare Mistletoe to sin for there are some similarities therein.

Mistletoe plants grow on a wide range of host trees, and commonly reduce their growth and can kill them with heavy infestation. Mistletoe is a parasitic plant. A parasite is a plant or animal that needs another plant or animal to survive.

In the same way sin attaches itself to a living organism and will flourish if not dealt with. Sometimes, mistletoe can harm a tree and cause deformities in a tree's branches, but usually it doesn't kill its host. If the host dies, the mistletoe dies.

Likewise sin renders the victim to a weakened state and not able to function as GOD would have them to, but causing death is always the last step.

Birds are the carriers of the mistletoe seeds and they deposit them on tree branches and there it begins to develop into the plant.

The prince of power of the air is always going forth sowing seeds that are just looking for a place to land and get the nourishment they need to grow. Seeds of temptation, provocation, and slackness all of which are at best neutralizing forces in a Christian’s life and at worst devastation to you and those you love.

Since it takes time for these seeds of doubt, unbelief and temptation to develop at the first hint of their presence they must be weeded out.

There are so many examples of this but taking just one; seeming harmless office flirtations are the seeds of adultery that will grow into full fledged deception in a marriage if they are not stopped early on - - for if allowed to grow they will become uncontrollable.

Matthew 10:16 Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

Jesus gave three bits of pertinent information in this verse;

1.  We live in wolf territory

2.  In order to survive we must have the wisdom GOD gives

3. You. Maintain your innocence for that is your responsibility.

I enjoyed this testimony of a Texas wife on crouching sin.
