FULL FAMILY RIGHTS

Family Room
Courtesy photobucket.com

Unless you are abusive parents your kids probably act like they own the place.

Parents of young school age or teenage kids are a study in themselves.

Left to their own devices they don't ever hesitate to make themselves right at home which forces the parents to have to put on the brakes on occasion.

In my case being older and the kids are gone with children of their own, so my dogs have taken up where the kids left off.  Anytime there is a door left open they come sailing in and prop themselves down with tails awaggin.  If they are intruding at the wrong time I use the word, "Out".

Sometimes they wait to make sure I mean it and then I use a more forceful, "Out" which usually gets them headed for the door.  But once in awhile they pretend not to hear me and then they get my (just short of whacking them with the broom) most demanding "Out" and that clears the room in a hurry.

But the bottom line is they think they have "Family Rights" and feel right at home with us.

If they are bad and mess up they think that if they sidle up to me and wag their tail all will be forgiven and usually they are right. That is the equivalent a Christian confessing their short coming to GOD as in; 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

One of the main goals for a Christian is to be comfortable in the presence of GOD. To attain to the attitude of having full family rights where you can come in and sit down without any condemnation. If you feel you fall short of this feeling then there is a quick fix for that.

Psalm 15:1-2 A Psalm of David. LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? Who shall dwell in thy holy hill? He that walks uprightly, and works righteousness, and speaks the truth in his heart.

Isaiah 57:2 He enters into peace; they rest in their beds who walk in their uprightness.

Psalm 84:11 The LORD God is our protector and glorious king. He blesses us with kindness and honor. The LORD freely gives every good thing to those who do what is right.

You could fall short of this blessing of intimacy with GOD; perhaps it is just a step away.

Your walk before HIM must be the walk of the righteous in order to enjoy your full family rights in Christ.

HOOFING IT

Mule courtesy photobucket.com

Texas - A South Texas mayor has been found dead after apparently being attacked by a 500-pound donkey on his ranch. Chief Deputy David Soward says Bohlke apparently was attacked Monday morning by an aggressive male donkey he kept on the ranch. His body was found Monday night during a search by deputies and relatives. A formal cause of death is pending.

Due to the fact we humans rule over the animal kingdom we sometimes forget the strength and power animals possess. A rat can inflict a great deal of pain and damage to a person.

My uncles taught me to be careful of all of the animals on the farm because their attitude could change quickly. These are domestic animals I'm talking about.

When doing a simple thing like hitching up a horse or mule there was a procedure to follow. The outside trace chain hooks up first then the inside.

One day my uncle Nathan forgot this and was kicked over the heart by his mule.  It took him several hours before he returned to almost normal. Normalcy took several days due to the force with which he was kicked.

In the time I spent on the farm several people were killed in the community, some directly associated with animals.

Within the Equidae family there are horses, mules, zebras ect. All of which have the power to kick, paw and bite you to death. We normally think the back-end is where the danger is but they are front end loaded also.

We have to deal with danger on a daily basis but most of our hurts come from circumstances we feel comfortable with such as;

1. Caught in/under/between - a part of the body is squeezed, pinched or crushed in machinery.

2. Falls from elevation - falls from ladders, roofs or other elevated surfaces

3. Fall at same level - slips, trips and falls on flat surfaces

4. Struck by/against - impacting a part of the body against something or hit by a moving or flying objects, or by noise (noise impacts the ear drum)

5. Motor vehicle accidents - traffic accidents

6. Work-related musculoskeletal disorders of the lower extremities (knees ankles and feet) and

7. Musculoskeletal Injuries of Upper Body (Neck, back and arms) - from overexertion, kneeling, squatting, or other repetitive motion, lifting, awkward posture, hand pinching or gripping or vibration.

In the spiritual world there are dangers from the things we become comfortable with. Things that can lead one astray. It is one of the most damning things in the church that Jesus is building.

1 Corinthians 10:12
Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.

THE WRITER chapter four THE EPILOGUE

Copy Boy Writer
courtesy photobucket.com

As the writer prepared to write his column for the paper as he felt sure he had a blockbuster story.

His mind flashed back to the moment when the nurse gave the baby to the mother and she said; hello Willie. They had already chosen the name William Holden.  After the movie actor, the last name omitted for the sake of privacy. So little Willie and arrived and was in good hands.

The writer opened his note book to refresh his memory, and began to write or rather type on his old Royal typewriter. He had just cleaned the key letters and installed a new ribbon so it was ready to go. It was almost morning when he finished.  Now his eyes were closing and he laid his head on the table and went to sleep.

Later he awoke with a start and jumped up as he remembered he promised to do a birth announcement for the parents.  He recalled that they had been waiting for nine years due to health, military and financial reasons but finally everything was in place and Willie had arrived.  So he wrote it up and included the picture he took of Willie and his mother.

Proud isn't the word he felt as he walked into the editor’s office for he was ecstatic. He put his masterpiece on the desk before the editor and waited.
Cranky Editor
courtesy photobucket.com
The editor sat there shuffling papers as if he was looking for something and finally acknowledged the writers presence. What's this he said? He then proceeded to glance over the many pages the writer had written. The writer's heart leaped when the editor said; give it to rewrite and we'll see if it’s worth a column. He quickly took his report to one of the rewriters and then went back to his duties as a copy boy.

Each day he scanned the paper for his article and finally on Sunday it was published. His many pages had been reduced to a column and a half and when he asked the rewriter why? The answer came; all the particulars are in there.

The rewriter told him people don't want to read a book they just want the meat of the story in a newspaper that they can read quickly.

As he left the rewriter he felt like a flat tire that was totally deflated. His dream was smashed. It was over for it had been printed with the byline, staff.  His desire to be a writer didn't seem important anymore for his emotions had risen to the heights and then came tumbling down.

He thought about his experience in the hospital and realized that was where the realty of life was played out, and the best that writing could ever do was to talk about it.

As he thought about that he realized; I am only nineteen years old and my grades are good enough to get into med school.

That is where I need to be, and I will Persevere, Pray and be Persistent in my pursuit of a meaningful life.

THE WRITER Part Four

New Mom and Babe
courtesy photobucket.com

The moment of truth had arrived. He felt he was in a world apart and alone behind the mask he had on.

As they rushed the gurney in along side the birthing table they assisted the patient in moving off the gurney onto the table. The doctor helped her get positioned and her feet into the stirrups. He adjusted them so she could push against them when she would bear down. Writer, moved over so his vision wasn't impaired as the doctor raised her gown revealing her distended stomach and fully exposed body.

The doctor said “Everything looks good, you are fully dilated, your cervix is nigh unto 10 centimeters.”

Writer didn't understand what that meant and was completely lost for he was a journalist grad not a med student. As he viewed the scene before him he had the feeling of guilt sweep over him. He felt he had no business is viewing what was going on. He wanted to leave but was paralyzed and just stared straight ahead.

During the next half hour he was transfixed, seeing but detached from what he saw.  He could only remember segments of what happened such as the doctor’s voice saying; just work with your body and with each contraction,

Push!

Then it was. “I see the head! Just a couple of more times now. Take a breath and Push.”  It was only a few minutes but it seemed like hours. The groans were like thunder in his ears, and then the doctor held up a new born child and said; "It’s a boy!"

The nurses took the child and quickly sucked the mucus from his mouth with a syringe and moments later he took his first breath and let out a scream which must have meant I'm alive and well. The doctor tied off the cord and cut it, freeing the child from his mother's support system. After he was cleaned up he was given to the mother who held him for the first time.

The writer came to his senses and got out his brownie camera and took the mother and son picture for the paper. Then he grabbed his clothes and left.

It was some time before he calmed down enough to think rationally. Little by little he settled down and then began to laugh out loud as he thought about all he had just gone through. All he could think of was, "I must get this down on paper"

Writer thanked everyone and as he left they all, even the head nurse was laughing at him and his pretense of being an experienced reporter.

THE WRITER Part 3

Delivery Room Nurses
courtesy photobucket.com

Having become a little frustrated mostly because of his inexperience, the Writer finally went to the head nurse and requested to be allowed in the delivery room during the birth of a child.

He was in the father's waiting room when the head nurse came and called him out to converse about the conditions to be met if allowed to witness a live birth. As she laid out his requirements his knees almost buckled. His emotions were running wild as he tried to envision what was going to happen next.

Then she told him of the rules the parents had set and what the hospital required him to follow or he would be asked to leave the room;

He couldn't take pictures of the birth, he had to stay back out of the way, he had to dress in hospital garb, and finally he had to write up a personal history of how the birth came about and post a picture of the newborn in the paper. He quickly agreed to all of rules before him even though all the paper stuff had to be cleared by the editor.

Moments later the head nurse told him gruffly to get down to the delivery room for they would be starting soon. He almost ran down the long hallway and entered the room where the birth would occur.

He was amazed at how well lit the room was. As he gazed around the surroundings he saw the center piece which was a table with stirrups and was surprised at how narrow it was. He thought to himself, “I hope she doesn't fall off. “

So, there he stood with note book in hand, ready for the action to start when a woman quickly turned and handed him a stack of hospital garb and said strip to your undies and put on these clothes and just as quick she returned back to what she had to do to get ready.

To say he was nonplussed is putting it mildly!  He couldn't tell if the nurse was old or young for all that was showing was her eyes, and her voice was muffled by the mask she wore. The same applied to the doctor and the two other aides.

After what seemed like to be several minutes (though it was only a few seconds) he composed himself and meekly asked, "Do I take off my shoes also?" To which the nurse answered no, just put these booties over them.  Even though he was somewhat redden he turned to the wall and removed his pants and since he didn't wear underwear it didn't take long to put on the clothes she had given him.

His waist was about 28 inches and the hospital pants were for a 44 inch waist so he pulled hard on the draw strings, wrapped them around himself and tied them in front.

The rest went easy including the hat, booties and the mask. There he stood, looking almost like a doctor, waiting and then the door was flung open and the time had come.

THE WRITER Part Two

\
Reporter Courtesy photobucket.com

Having arrived early he sat in his car a 1946 Ford that he was making two payments on each month. One was the car payment itself and the other was the cost of repairs to keeping it running.

He laid out his plan of action; first he would position himself where he could see everything that was going on and collar the people for an interview, as they checked in. He discarded this plan after the outset of 10 minutes for the first couple that came in was on the verge of giving birth and the woman was in great discomfort. They disappeared into the delivery room and he was left standing somewhat dismayed.

Wow! He thought. She couldn't be in that much pain. He had his note book in his hand and felt foolish just standing there alone in the hallway so he ventured into the fathers waiting room.

He thought to himself, “Well, here I have a captive audience,” and he could flesh out his story from the father's viewpoint. Which one should I tackle first he thought. Some of them were pacing back and forth and didn't appear to want to engage in conversation so he decided to wait until they settled down. There was one man about forty, he looked to be calm so he ventured over and tried to start a conversation. After some niceties about the weather he asked if this was his first child to which the man said no, it was his seventh.

The writers mind went blank for a minute because he thought who has seven children in this day and age.  As he turned back to the man to question him further the man had fallen asleep and was snoring. Seems Dad was willing to let nature take its course without him worrying about it.

As the writer settled back in his chair he knew his editor would expect much more than a story about man with seven children who was snoring to fill a column so he ventured back out where the head nurse was. He wasn't getting desperate yet, but he knew he had to get something from a human interest viewpoint but he wasn't sure how to do it.

About this time he had what he thought was a brilliant idea. He sidled up to the head nurse but when he saw the stern look on her face he froze for a moment. She gruffly said; “And what do you want?”  He started to say; nothing but the vision of the editors displeased face came before him and he snapped out of it and said; “Do you think I could go in the delivery room and witness the whole birth process first hand because that way it would be a true story of what the hospital does in the maternity wing of the hospital?”

She, without changing the severe look on her face said; “I'll see what I can do.” The writer thought “What have I gotten into now?”

Then the two "P s" Perseverance and Prayer came to mind and he hoped they would prevail.

THE WRITER

The Writer courtesy photobucket.com

He had struggled to get some journalistic training, and it was even harder to get a job at the local newspaper and the best he could find was a copy boy position.

In those days being a copy boy was the bottom of the totem pole so to speak. He was at the beck and call of everyone, the gofer, the “have him do it” guy.

As he would read the paper each day he could just envision his name on the by line of each story and off he would go in his own fantasy land. The editor was a tolerant man (as tolerant as an editor can be which isn't much) and when he was in the editors presence he would hint that he would like to write something for the paper.

For the most part it fell on deaf ears for running a newspaper entailed everything from deadlines to legal problems to the actual equipment that did the printing. But the copy boy persevered and did his job very well even though he received little or no praise for doing a good job. Complements were in short supply in the newspaper business.

Over time the editor did notice his dedication to his job and called him into his office one day and asked if he would like to do a story with the understanding it probably wouldn't be published. He was ecstatic and pledged he would do a workman like job. The editor tried to squash his enthusiasm enough to give him his assignment which was to spend the night at the maternity department of the local hospital and develop a story about the new mothers and fathers. He assured the editor that it would be no problem and he could handle it.

As he left the editors office he declared to himself; "I am now a cub reporter" and no longer a copy boy. Then it struck him; how do I do this?  Sheepishly he decided to approach one of the less gruff reporters and ask him the best way to do this.

Amid his snarls and contemptuous laughter the old reporter laid out the first steps for him.  “The first thing you need to do is get a press pass so you will look official, and then contact the department head and tell them you want to do a story about their branch of the hospital services and then go from there.“

So it was after answering a multitude of questions the hospital gave their consent but wanted to meet him to lay down some ground rules. When he met with them they gave him a time set for his night at the maternity ward, and they laid the dos and don'ts for being there. When they questioned the fact he looked so young he assured he had been doing this for a long time.

Since he was going to stay up all night he was let off from his job at noon to get some rest. As he lay in bed he couldn't sleep, he could only think about his new adventure. His appointment was at six thirty but he showed up at five and had to wait till six when he was allowed to proceed to the maternity area.

Inwardly he thought about the two "P s" Perseverance and Prayer for they had prevailed at last.

SOMETHING DIFFERENT IN THE AIR

Stained Glass Cross
courtesy photobucket.com

THERE WAS SOMETHING DIFFERENT IN THE AIR

I don't how or why I got there
I guess I had to be somewhere
I surmised it must be a place of refuge
For a cross had been placed up in the air

I entered with apprehension
Disquieted, suspicious, say the least
Yes, for sure, there was something different in the air
There were benches for sitting, straight backed and so hard

I felt it must be a form of torture to endure
The ceiling reached nigh to heaven
The walls and stain glass were so severe
It added to my discomfort, I feared

The Lectern rose above me, all delivery came from above
Then A solemn figure rose from his seat and strode across the stage
He took his place in the pulpit and as he assuaged

I felt my self getting smaller, and I feared for
There was something different in the air
Sometime later the sermon, it was past
I was glad it was over but then alas

He cried with a voice so anguished
So laced with bitter pain I could hardly bear it
His composure he regained and said with softer tones
Come, come, the savior is calling, hurry don't delay

It may be your only chance, this may be your only day
And as I sat there musing, there was something different in the air
The next words he uttered I could hardly comprehend
Raise your hand, walk down the aisle, at the altar the knee must bend
Repent, confess and try to make amends

It was some time later, I felt all things were new
I didn't understand it, I wondered what to do
As I looked around me, I couldn't help but stare
Then I realized there was something different in the air

PRONE TO DISREGUARD WARNINGS

People are Prone to Disregard Warnings - -

What's behind this is the realization that many, many people electively choose not to comply with official orders of mandatory evacuation and intend to stay in place no matter what the warnings are. Many of these people are putting themselves at an extreme level of risk.

Someone was electing to stay in Galveston during a hurricane. This guy, his family and extended family were moving into a masonry building to ride it out. They were strong-willed, independent individuals who relish the idea of riding out something most of us would consider to be too dangerous to remain in.  Newsweek

There are different groups of people who suffer great loss during catastrophes. Some are warned and just ignore the warning. They do this for many different reasons but underlying them is a stubborn will of defiance.

Others just don't take the warnings serious and choose to go their way. Finally there are those who don't receive the warning, they don't know that they are in emanate danger and don't prepare for what is to come, and lastly some are so close to the danger they can't free themselves like living on an low lying island with no place to go.

All of the above were manifested in the earthquake driven tsunami's in the pacific the last few years. Some sought safety in strong buildings others remained on the seashore and perished.

The warnings in the scripture must be taken seriously and obeyed. Matthew 24:36-37: No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.

This is a prayer to pray before danger is imminent.   Psalms 61:2-3 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.  For thou hast been a shelter for me.

Mark 4:24a Think carefully about what you are hearing. The Word of GOD requires the highest consideration you can give it and requires you to respond accordingly.

There is usually a price to pay for not heeding warnings whether it is overeating, smoking, placing yourself in danger or ignoring scriptural admonishments. It's either obey the truth behind the warnings or pay the consequences.

Revelations 22:7  Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keeps the sayings of the prophecy of this book.

Ready when you are Lord!

FALLING A LITTLE SHORT?

So Embarrassed
Courtesy Photobucket.co9m

Feeling ashamed or embarrassed?  Macmillan dictionary

Ashamed and Embarrassed

Feeling guilty or embarrassed because you have done something wrong, or think that you have not reached a standard that people expect. Ashamed of something and worried about what other people will think of you

Sheepish;  Ashamed or embarrassed about something that you have done

Foolish; Embarrassed because of something stupid that you have done

Contrite; Very sorry or ashamed because you have done something bad

Repentant; Ashamed and sorry because you recognize that you have done something wrong

Abashed; Embarrassed or ashamed about something that you have done

Feel and look small; To feel or look ashamed or unimportant, especially because of something that someone has said or done.

Mark 8:38 If you are ashamed of me and of my teaching in this godless and wicked day, then the Son of Man will be ashamed of you when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels."

These defining words were spoken for a reason! Jesus knew that under the right circumstances believers might become reticent and not stand up for their belief in Him. Have you ever redden when asked about your faith and tried to not say something that might offend someone or make them uncomfortable? I would guess most all have been put into such a scenario and have hedged a little.

We are admonished to; 1 Peter 3:15 But have reverence for Christ in your hearts, and honor him as Lord. Be ready at all times to answer anyone who asks you to explain the hope you have in you, but do it with gentleness and respect.

Can you pledge from this day forward that you will obey 1 Peter 3:15 and never again allow your testimony for Christ be diminished because of being ashamed of Christ and his sayings?

FARM LIFE

As a youth I spent much of the time on a farm and I witnessed many animals give birth.  Like women not all births are easy and at times it requires some aid from the farmer.

Women have been given the task of carrying forth the existence of mankind but not without much discomfort and pain. The mother of Christ discovered that doing her work for GOD required a willingness and commitment. Mary must have endured the suspicion and the whispers of people she knew. She found out that giving birth cause her pain and was difficult.

The bringing forth the new birth process was fraught with much of the same physical and psychological stresses ending in the death of Christ. The offspring of that was the creation process whereby men can be born into the kingdom of GOD.

Mom and new Baby
courtesy photobucket.com
I was thinking about the time I watched as a calf was born. The cow did her part and the calf was soon born. It wasn't necessarily easy for the calf as getting to this state was a process he went through. Moments after a cow had given birth she turned around and first looked at her offspring, then nuzzled it as the calf's tongue flicked out and licked her nose. There was an immediate bond between the two and the mother proceeded to clean the calf up. As the calf sought nourishment the mother gave forth the necessary food to sustain and strengthen her child.

From there the two were not parted. They walked side by side and enjoyed the green pastures.

As I thought back to the time of my new birth and the process I went through before I came to the point of being born again. Being convicted by The Holy Spirit isn't the most comfortable thing I experienced.

As soon as I was born again something like the cow and calf occurred.  It was a bond of love established and again as the cow cleaned up her calf I was washed of all my sin. I experienced a hunger I had never known before and the Lord brought me to HIS banqueting table and I was fed with the sincere milk of the word. As I walk with the Lord his words echo in my heart “I will never leave you nor forsake you”

Psalms 23:1-6 A Psalm of David.
Jehovah is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside still waters.  He restores my soul:
He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name's
Sake. Yea, thou I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no Evil; for thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou prepares a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
Thou has anointed my head with oil; My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and loving kindness shall follow me all the days of my life;
And I shall dwell in the house of Jehovah for ever.

BURNED OUT

Bending Metal
courtesy photobucket.com

As a kid I was always amazed that how a piece of metal would break if you bent it back and forth enough times. This was one of my big discoveries as a youth. Many others followed as I accumulated my vast storage of knowledge.

Alone the way I came into contact with people with what was called psychological burn out.

At first I couldn't understand how that could be until I met Cliff Wright. He was a kindly man who was soft spoken who wished to help people in need. The only problem he didn't have the wherewithal to do so and he would take from one and give it to another.
courtesy photobucket.com

He was a good mechanic who could fix almost kind of engine. This was essential for his former occupation which was a race car driver. He would build his own cars and drive them. He had raced all across the country from the west to the east. But after years of little success, often having to sleep in his car with little to eat he finally came to the place where he was just burned out and racing became only a memory.

Cliff had developed a problem along the way which was lying about his racing exploits and you could never tell for sure if he was telling the truth. If you asked his wife she would always tell the truth about what he had said. Still with this fault he was likeable.

He would have plenty of work to do but he would just sit and look at it and after awhile would say; let's go and get some coffee. He would come back and look at it again until he felt it was time for coffee again. Jobs that would normally take a couple of hours wouldn't get done for weeks even though he promised to finish it. He was so burned out that all he had left was good intentions.

It is possible for a Christian to come to the same place where service for GOD has left them burned out.

What is burnout? Helpguide.org.  “Burnout is a state of emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It occurs when you feel overwhelmed and unable to meet constant demands. As the stress continues, you begin to lose the interest or motivation that led you to take on a certain role in the first place. Burnout reduces your productivity and saps your energy, leaving you feeling increasingly helpless, hopeless, cynical, and resentful. Eventually, you may feel like you have nothing more to give.”

This can occur when your high expectations for GOD are not met and your desire to do great things at best turn out mediocre. It is possible for our zeal to take us beyond our calling and the result can be disappointment, discouragement and confusion.

Our willingness to work for GOD can lead to expectations (by others) beyond what our stress levels can bear and if you crash and burn they will wonder why.

Jesus saw this happening to his disciples; And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while. While their rest was short lived at least he recognized they had limits.

Due to the times we live in we must push ourselves to do more for Christ's kingdom but it is imperative to stay within your limits and not "Burn Out."
