TEACH ME TO PRAY Part 1

The time was the summer of 1948. I had shortly before been born again (saved). I was excited about everything that pertained to the Christian experience.

The pastor of the church was an older man who had been ministering for over 40 years. He had been a lawyer prior to entering the ministry and was straight foreword. He was a kind of “yea and nay” person with little in between.

I heard him pray at one time, and he was saying, “Lord teach me to pray.”

This shocked me for someone who had been in the ministry that long to pray like that. I figured that he after that long a time should know all there was about praying.

While praising GOD there might be some response from GOD but in the main, our way to have a dialogue with GOD is to pray.

There are two basic ways to pray and is described in 1 Corinthians 14:15 Well then, what shall I do? I will pray in the spirit, and I will also pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit, and I will also sing in words I understand.

The difference between the two avenues of prayer is; one is a product of the mind influenced by the Holy Spirit and the other is out of the Reborn Spirit in which the Spirit dwells.
There are those who argue out of their know nothingness saying, He (the Holy Spirit) doesn’t really dwell within man but is just a figure of speech or some other nonsensical reasoning’s.

This just proves that they fall short of experience and have no reality concerning spiritual things. Their approach to things of the Spirit has occurred in the mind where confusion reigns yet they continue to push forward their arguments.

Romans 8:9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you.

DWELLS WHERE?
1 Corinthians 3:16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? DWELLS WHERE?
Romans 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

TEMPLE OF WHAT?

Colossians 1:27 To whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you,

Romans 8:9 But if God's Spirit lives in you, you are under the control of your spiritual nature, not your corrupt nature. Whoever doesn't have the Spirit of Christ doesn't belong to him.

All these scriptures lead one to believe the Holy Spirit is an indwelling spirit that dwells within the Christian.

Those who see the Holy Trinity as one GOD expressed in three persons also see a unity that is one movement. All are totally involved in every action yet act individually. Recognize that at present the Holy Spirit is our connection to GOD. Understanding this is the key to everything that pertains to our relating to GOD.

In the forthcoming posts we will go further into this and allow the Lord to “Teach us to pray.”
