This is what I feel like saying when I have a checkup at the doctors. The exams are somewhat intrusive to say the least.
At one time I had a female doctor and at first I felt uncomfortable but she was great. If you can imagine she actually listened to you, and was very knowledgeable. Another good thing was, she had long, slender fingers, which was helpful for some distasteful exams.
The Apostle Paul had spiritual problems with some in Corinth. 1Corinthians 11:17-22
“Barnes notes; Such an irregular and indecent observance as existed in the church of Corinth, where even gluttony and intemperance prevailed under the professed design of celebrating the Lord's Supper.”
When Jesus said; do this in remembrances of me, this feasting and boozing wasn’t what He had in mind. Beside that, some couldn't afford this and were left out.
Paul said: 1 Corinthians 11:27-28 Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks from the Lord's cup in an improper way will be held responsible for the Lord's body and blood. But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
When he said that, he wasn’t saying, check yourself for BO, for he was referring to the inward man, to check him out. Not too many people enjoy being examined even if it is self examination especially if it is of the inward man. Paul was saying there is an outward symptom that is probably a reflection of a deeper problem inside and we need to run some tests and find out what is the cause.
As a Christian you can dodge the Word for just so long, and then it will catch up with you and when it does, it doesn’t go away until it has accomplished what it was sent there for;
Isaiah 55:11 My word, which comes from my mouth, is like the rain and snow. It will not come back to me without results. It will accomplish whatever I want and achieve whatever I send it to do."
When the Word of GOD comes to you - - might as well give it up and straighten up, for it is there to stay until it has accomplished its purpose. The Holy Spirit is using this power filled Word of GOD to help you in your daily walk, and you thought it was just a mental exercise.
Hebrews 4;12 For the Word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Everything that is you is laid bare, nothing hidden. Your thoughts before you think them are known; your acts before you do them are revealed.
I have it on good authority that the only thing in heaven that will be rewarded, and that is OBEDIENCE TO GOD’S WORD. HUMMMM!
Had a word lately?
