HOOFING IT

Mule courtesy photobucket.com

Texas - A South Texas mayor has been found dead after apparently being attacked by a 500-pound donkey on his ranch. Chief Deputy David Soward says Bohlke apparently was attacked Monday morning by an aggressive male donkey he kept on the ranch. His body was found Monday night during a search by deputies and relatives. A formal cause of death is pending.

Due to the fact we humans rule over the animal kingdom we sometimes forget the strength and power animals possess. A rat can inflict a great deal of pain and damage to a person.

My uncles taught me to be careful of all of the animals on the farm because their attitude could change quickly. These are domestic animals I'm talking about.

When doing a simple thing like hitching up a horse or mule there was a procedure to follow. The outside trace chain hooks up first then the inside.

One day my uncle Nathan forgot this and was kicked over the heart by his mule.  It took him several hours before he returned to almost normal. Normalcy took several days due to the force with which he was kicked.

In the time I spent on the farm several people were killed in the community, some directly associated with animals.

Within the Equidae family there are horses, mules, zebras ect. All of which have the power to kick, paw and bite you to death. We normally think the back-end is where the danger is but they are front end loaded also.

We have to deal with danger on a daily basis but most of our hurts come from circumstances we feel comfortable with such as;

1. Caught in/under/between - a part of the body is squeezed, pinched or crushed in machinery.

2. Falls from elevation - falls from ladders, roofs or other elevated surfaces

3. Fall at same level - slips, trips and falls on flat surfaces

4. Struck by/against - impacting a part of the body against something or hit by a moving or flying objects, or by noise (noise impacts the ear drum)

5. Motor vehicle accidents - traffic accidents

6. Work-related musculoskeletal disorders of the lower extremities (knees ankles and feet) and

7. Musculoskeletal Injuries of Upper Body (Neck, back and arms) - from overexertion, kneeling, squatting, or other repetitive motion, lifting, awkward posture, hand pinching or gripping or vibration.

In the spiritual world there are dangers from the things we become comfortable with. Things that can lead one astray. It is one of the most damning things in the church that Jesus is building.

1 Corinthians 10:12
Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.
