Oft times you will find the word grace and mercy together in a passage of scripture.
Both of these words are an expression of the love GOD has for his created beings.
In science fiction the big fear is that a robot will have evil intentions, and be able to reproduce them-selves.
At least part of GOD’S creations does that very thing, for all of GOD’S creations are at war. Starting with the smallest microbe up to man himself, there is this paradox of trying to build up and to destroy.
The name Grace that is given to girls carries with it the hope that the child will grow to be all the name signifies. Grace Kelly always comes to mind as the personification of grace. While her children never measured up to her standard she went from a simple girl to a movie star to become the princesses of Monaco with all the dignity her position required of her.
The dictionary has many definitions of grace, one of which is “the freely given, the unmerited favor of GOD” or the condition of being in favor with GOD. Those words carry with them more than we can comprehend. Freely, without cost to me. Given to me as my possession. Unmerited, no way deserving. Favor, being treated with partiality, with gentleness.
When grace is coupled with mercy it becomes the manifestation of the love of GOD. GOD’S mercy allows us every opportunity to fully return to HIM and be not only HIS child by creation but also HIS child by regeneration. HIS mercy stays judgment until the end time when we must all give account of our life.
Paul the apostle said;
Galatians 2:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God, in this reference he speaks of adhering to the law for salvation, but there are other ways to frustrate GOD’S grace in your life and that is to try to live your own way ignoring the help and direction the Spirit of GOD gives you.
Galatians 5:16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.
James 1:14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.
This lust business is almost always a bad thing but is controllable; in fact it must be controlled. It is a real downer to realize that none of us are perfect and because of this GOD’S grace and mercy, is the only thing that saves us from destruction. Despite of grace and mercy some will be self willed and frustrate GOD’S grace in their lives to the point of losing HIS favor and heaven itself.
Galatians 6:9 Let us not get tired of doing what is good, for at the right time we will reap a harvest-if we do not give up.
