THE GOOD TIMES HAVE ROLLED

The one good thing about being older is that you have lived through some of the best times in history.

Radio was still in its infancy and television was still a dream. Libraries were a popular place to spend an evening and the movie theater was where fantasies were born.

Lowell Thomas was for many years the narrator for movietone news and Lew Lehr was a comedian, writer and editor known for his humorous contributions to Fox movietone news, and his catchphrase "Monkeys is the cwaziest peoples" was his lead-in to some humorous movie clips.

You learned to appreciate your money and made it go as far as you could.

You knew every automobile and the different models they produced. You would run home after school to listen to the kid’s radio shows and wish you had the money to buy the decoder rings they sold.

Ethnic groups lived in the same neighborhood without any problems and families spoke their native tongue in the home making their children bilingual without demanding special ethnicity treatment.

The music, the music was a catalyst that molded all groups together in mood and expression. For me, it all started in the twenties; actually I almost missed the twenties being born little over two months before the end of it. Some interesting facts of the twenties were;

106,521,537 people in the United States; 2,132,000 unemployed, Unemployment 5.2%
Life expectancy: Male 53.6, Female 54.6;
343.000 in military (down from 1,172,601 in 1919)
Average annual earnings $1236; Teacher’s salary $970; Dow Jones High 100 Low 67
Illiteracy rate reached a new low of 6% of the population.
Gangland crime included murder, swindles, racketeering
It took 13 days from California to New York. There were 387,000 miles of paved road.
The twenties were a little too salty for my taste for it was the jazz age and I liked the blues far better. They fit the countries mood and justified all kinds of failure.

Great music continued through the fifties and then the spiral downward started and continues today. What we had in the early days is gone; there is no returning to it, just a memory in the minds of those who lived it.

What now? There is still a now and we are in it. Is there a word from GOD for this generation?

Matt.20:16 “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.  Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom; Yea, with all thy getting get understanding."

The words for this generation are found in the book of Proverbs, if they are read and received into the heart they will sustain those who are willing and obedient. Those who will neglect GODS wisdom will……perish ?
