THE TRAFFIC COP

image courtesy photobucket.com

There are many stories about who invented the first traffic light with its three color design.

Actually like most inventions they had their start, and then were improved upon as the years went by. If they are a viable product, often they are grabbed up by a large corporation, improved upon and then marketed as their own private invention.

The traffic light itself is first of all a safety device then it moves traffic in an orderly manor. There is no mistake about what the red and green lights mean. They are either stop or go, but when it comes to what the yellow light stands for people think it is open for interpretation. Some times it means prepare to stop, and other time it is give it the gas. :-)

Then there are those who will run the red light because the yellow just barely turned red and no traffic was coming.

Man is equipped with a similar inner device called conscience and it functions along the same lines as the traffic light. Sometimes it says STOP and then it will say go.

In between these diametrically opposed forces there is the yellow which is proceed with caution. The Holy Spirit will use these controlling guides to direct our paths, but of course there is a catch;

Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

The verse is all inclusive inasmuch as it requires the acknowledgment of HIM.

Without going into much detail we all recognize that the Bible is clear on the red and green issues of life but where we might miss it is in the caution areas. Proceed with extreme caution should be our byword and do not push the envelope too far.

Philippians 2:12 has some good advice; Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling.

The key to the Christian walk is keeping within the boundaries of the green and yellow and at all times to obey the red stop light.

Always remember there is a heavenly Traffic Cop on duty 24 - 7.
