WORSE AND WORSER

Deceived and Confused

2Timothy 3:13 But evil people and impostors will flourish. They will deceive others and will themselves be deceived.

Barnes notes; And being deceived - Under delusion themselves. The advocates of error are often themselves as really under deception, as those whom they impose upon. They are often sincere in the belief of error, and then they are under a delusion they are equally deluded in supposing that they can make error pass for truth before God, The worst victims of delusion are those who attempt to delude others. The word rendered “seducers” - γόης goēs - occurs nowhere else in the New Testament. It means, properly, a “juggler, or diviner;” and then, a “deceiver, or impostor.” Here it refers to those who by seductive arts, that lead persons into error.

As one might say "This is today, baby."

For the Christian it is important who we identify with, whether by slogans, causes or markings not unlike the Nazi Swastika.  Most Christians will agree that we are not to love the world system, and I would submit it includes not to take on the "Look and attitudes of the worldly."

Luke 14:28 For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it.

When it comes to counting the cost of Christianity one might say "I thought it was free!" Then we learn that the "Getting" is free but the "Living" has a price tag.

I suppose there are some "Fire sale believers" who want to be indemnified against the fires of Gehenna, but yet hesitate to pay the price of full surrender to the Lordship of Christ.

I reckon there is nothing worse than falling short of the standard (short of the glory of GOD) set by Christ.

Titus 1:16 They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.

The disturbing thing about this verse is that it could be anyone of us if we do not continue to observe and obey the warnings in scripture.

Hebrews 3:12 Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.

The words in this scripture "Fall Away" indicate that someone was careless and like Demas; (Paul speaking) Demas, having loved this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica.

I John 2:15 believers are challenged Not to love this world, or the things of the world and as is in

2 Peter 1:12 So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have.
