IMBIBE

Imbibe -To receive, absorb and retain into the mind; To steep, to soak up!!

James 1:21 Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive (imbibe) with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

The writer James is believed to be the Lord’s brother. Having been raised with Jesus, he had seen his empowerment at his baptism, observed as he performed miracles and preached the pure gospel. Then he had to stand by and watch as he was slain as a lamb to take away the sin of the world.

This took all of the foolishness out of James. He had no time for people whose living didn’t mirror the gospel. You discover in the first chapter of James that a half-hearted effort wasn’t good enough for a Christian life.

It was as if James could see through the layers of falseness to the very core of one’s being. This writing was from a man who had been as close to Jesus as anyone who has walked this earth and his words need to be given that respect.

James understood that the marvelous occurrence that happens at the new birth must be translated into our daily lifestyle. To his way of thinking it was possible to talk the talk, and not walk the walk.

In becoming a Christian (new birth) the first thing that transpires is the reception and believing the Word of GOD. It doesn’t stop there but must continue for life. It is the purifying element for perfecting the soul (mind, will, emotions).

All of the New Testament writers knew this and Paul expresses it in his writings;

Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

From the moment one is saved it is required to keep imbibing the transforming Word of GOD. The reason for this is you are constantly imbibing all that the world can throw at you. Be grateful that this powerful force “The Word Of GOD” is available to you.

The Christian faith is never dull for there are always new heights to gain and the stairs to those heights is the word of GOD. Embide soak up, God’s Word then - -

ALL THAT IS REQUIRED IS TO TRUST AND OBEY!
