OLD ROCKING CHAIR

I woke up the other day and found myself taken captive by that old rocking chair.

I knew it would get me some day but I didn’t expect it to happen so soon.

I fought it the best I could but in the end it got me.

After some effort I get going and try to do the young me but it don’t last.

With each step taken my huffing and puffing increases and I sound like a choo choo train. Then I hear it calling me; get in here where you belong. I can do nothing else but obey.

I have gotten so used to rocking away that I can't recollect any other way of living. I’m sure I must have done something afore but just can't recall what it was.

The exception to that is when some faint memory comes floating up from somewhere and then fades away.

The time will come when the old rocking chair will come for you and you will resist but in the end it will prevail and you will sing this old rocking chair has got me just like me.

One day my chair will stop rockin’ there will be no need to look for me for I have went with the upper taker to the land of the free.
