I AM THAT I AM |
I CAN'T TELL NOBODY NUTTIN
As the title says; "I'm
not smart enough to tell people how they should live." I reckon one thing
I know is; something that controls the way people act and how they live is;
"What they believe about GOD."
If they don't believe in GOD
and are atheist, their life will be lived based on that line of thinking. On
the other hand if they do have some form of belief in almighty GOD their
lifestyle will reflect that belief. In other words what you believe and how you
believe it will be the controlling factor in the way you live.
The only guide written about
the creator GOD with substance is the Holy Bible. All of our concepts
concerning God stems from that book. It speaks of false gods that people create
and worship but warns against embracing that folly. Perhaps the mass of people
have an abstract view of the GOD of the scriptures allowing them to remake HIM
according to their likes and dislikes. This allows then to do things the
scripture forbids without impunity (or so they think). What you allow in your
life defines who you think GOD is.
Where did you get your
concept of Almighty GOD from? Many will say from the scripture if they profess
faith in the Almighty, but what scriptures? Was it the scripture which declares
the very nature of the living GOD? Or is your conclusion based upon some
acceptable concept of what GOD should be in order to be pleasing to you?
GOD defined himself in Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, "I
AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me
to you." This is the strongest statement that GOD could make about
who he was.
I AM THAT I AM.—It is generally assumed that this is given to Moses as the
full name of God. But perhaps it is rather a deep and mysterious statement of
His nature. “I am that which I am.” My nature, cannot be declared in words,
cannot be conceived of by human thought. I exist in such sort that my whole
inscrutable nature is implied in my existence. I exist, as nothing else
does—necessarily, eternally, really. If I am to give myself a name expressive
of my nature, so far as language can be, let me be called “I AM.” Excerpt
from Elliott's commentary
The human
race cannot understand who GOD is and it behooves us to take all that HE has
revealed about HIMSELF and make it a lifetime study to gain as much information
as we can about HIM. Starting in Genesis and ending in Revelation. It is there
we can discover what is His will for we humans. He tells us who we are and how we should live.
He has made provision for our errors but he doesn't accept deliberate rebellion
against HIS revealed will.
Misinterpretation of scripture can be very
costly to the professing believer. Especially if it is to justify deeds that
are suspect or just plainly wrong. One’s desires can cause one to believe that
it is alright to do what they know is wrong in GOD'S sight.
2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all
appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what
is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.
The
ten commandments alone reveal much of GOD'S will in how we should conduct
ourselves and the rest can be found out by reading and studying the Bible.
Much
more needs to be said on this subject but as I said in the beginning; " I CAN'T TELL NOBODY NUTTIN."
Thank you Robert. I have always been struck by the use of this name by Jesus in the book of John. The trinity has always been a subject of intrigue and thought but this name lays it out pretty clear. He is. When I tie it together from the book of Exodus it becomes an enmeshing of spiritual understanding of His transcendence of time, substance and spirit.
