WUZZY FUZZY

Back when I was a kid there was a saying you heard every once in a while from a poem called Fuzzy Wuzzy. “

The term "Fuzzy Wuzzy" originated in the 1800s. British Soldiers gave the nickname, "Fuzzy Wuzzy" to the Hadendoa warriors that were a nomadic tribe along the Red Sea in Sudan. The Hadendoa warriors wore their hair matted which gave a "fuzzy" appearance. Rudyard Kipling wrote a poem in 1890, Fuzzy Wuzzy that praised the Hadendoa warriors for their fighting skills.” From the Poet Patriot.

Some of our political figures today suffer from Fuzzy Thinking especially those who are participating in the Republican ongoing debates.

I suspect some of the Christians today are also suffering from the same malady of fuzzy thinking when it comes to prayer.

We expect GOD to compensate for any errors in thinking on our part. Part of this fuzziness is due to so many scriptures dealing with prayer saying the same thing, differently.

Jesus said you can ask me anything and I will do it and then in Matthew 6:9 he said, this is how you should pray: "'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,"  telling us to direct our prayers to the Father.

Further the Holy Spirit would seemingly be ignored in the process for we are not admonished to direct prayers to Him.

Since the Divine Trinity is involved in answering prayer and many prayers border on the outrageous I can imagine the question arising “Wuzzy (he) fuzzy when he prayed this.”

Some use images to help them focus in prayer to whatever entity they worship even though Exodus 20:4 says "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.

We have to have something in mind when we pray or else we just pray out into space.

We are told that GOD is a Spirit; this means that the Father is a spirit, the Holy Spirit is a spirit and the Son is a spirit that dwells in a resurrection body. So, what am I to envision when go to pray?

Jesus said to pray to the Father and added; John 16:23 At that time you won't need to ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, and he will grant your request because you use my name.”

The third member of the Trinity which is the Holy Spirit is also involved in answered prayer. Whatever is produced or created is done by the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 104: 30 Thou dost send forth Thy Spirit, they are created; And Thou dost renew the face of the ground.

The sequence is; you want something, pray to the Father, in the name of the Son and the Holy Spirit will produce it. If this is true (you judge) you understand the prayer process and as you pray you honor and respect each member of the Trinity. Our GOD is one GOD yet is manifested in three identifiable persons each with portfolio.

1Thessolonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; In everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

THE SURE THINg

THE SURE THINg

What everybody wants in life is "The sure thing," but it is one of the most difficult to acquire.

When I go for a check up and the doctor prescribes me a medicine, I wonder if this is going to help me or harm me. I want to be sure that it is a, "Sure thing." In fact I want to have the, "Sure thing" experience in most of what I do.

People want to know which horse will win the race or if a fix is in the making. The same thing is in boxing if a fighter will win or throw the fight and lose. If they can get some inside information they can't lose for they will then have a, "Sure thing."

When Jesus came, he told his listeners about a, "Sure thing." It revolved around believing unto salvation, by believing in HIM and “His Words.”

There only a few things that are a, "Sure thing;" salvation by faith in Christ is the main one. This is an absolute truth, something you can totally rely on.

Another thing that is a, "Sure thing" is if you reject Christ you will be lost and doomed forever. This points out that not everything that is a sure thing is not necessarily desirable. Today many people are neglecting their salvation.

Some are trying not to believe there is a GOD while all the time there is something gnawing away inside them saying. “Seek the Lord while he may be found. Proverbs 14:12, "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death".

Our feelings are not a safe guide. Beware your sure thing doesn't lead you astray. Colossians 3:2 Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are upon the earth.

You are safe and secure and have a "Sure thing" when you lean on "the everlasting arms of Jesus.

WHERE HAS MY LITTLE DOG GONE?

Blue Tick Hounds Treeing

As a hunter with hounds, one of my worries was about them going hunting without me and getting lost. I had a female blue-tick that always looked harmless but she was hard to keep corralled.

In the south there were a lot of coon hunters, and at times they would go to another State just to go hunting and if they found a stray hound they would load him up and take him home with them. In most cases you would never see your dog again.

One night two of my dogs dug out and ran all night. The next day I couldn’t locate them, and they didn't come home so after a couple of days I placed an ad in the newspaper and offered $100.00 reward for their return.

Early the next day I received a phone call and the first words from the caller was "You got a $100.00?” and I replied “Yes.” He said come and get them and bring the money. I drove about 20 miles over across the river and retrieved them, and was glad to have the back for I raised them from puppies.

The man that had them had picked them up at a restaurant/store where they were tired, smelled the food cooking and laid down. They were only about a mile from home, and would have returned if they had not been picked up.

He took advantage of the fact that he knew there would be a reward, or he could sell them out of state for about a $1,000.00 but he settled for an easy hundred bucks.

Losing an animal can be heart felt experience.

Jesus used an illustration about a lost sheep and how the shepherd felt when he retrieved his animal; "Rejoice with me for I have found my sheep which was lost."

Jesus went on to say; I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

Jesus gave the church the mission to go into all the world, and to find lost sheep. This includes those who have never known Christ and the ones who have went off on their own.

Just like I paid a ransom to get my dogs back, Jesus paid the ransom for all sinners.  1Timothy. 2:6 He gave himself as a ransom for everyone.

As a young boy I used to love hear and sing this song below.

HEAVENLY DAYS

I don't usually or haven't lately given much serious thought about heaven.

I get lost in thinking about the time of “waiting” between my passing on - - or the rapture whichever comes first, and the time when Christ returns with his church.

Then we have the New Jerusalem which will be the architectural feat of all time building wise.

This new home of the saints sounds like a giant condo.

I am a little offended by those idiots who refer to our final home as "Pie in the sky," which is little more than a crude, demeaning remark designed to classify Christians as a moronic group of dreamers.

As to what I will be doing for eternity (that sounds like a long time,) I suspect I will first do some sight seeing, and find out what my boundaries are.

I suspect there will be some kind of hierarchy or pecking order.

I respect the English language and think everyone who lives in America should understand and speak it, but I'm not sure if English will do in Heaven for it might be some new language of the Spirit.

It just wears me out trying to figure out these, and hundreds more questions about Heaven so for now, I am just making sure I will be included, and then later I will figure out the rest when I get there.

Turn it up and listen to "I got shoes" Remember this great song?

OLD SCHOOL

I recently watched a TV program where they built custom motorcycles, and some of the crew wanted to push the envelope to the limit, but the older generation would say I like the old school method best.

It was all about changing design and radicalizing the cycles to the point of almost being unsafe at high speeds. "The Look" won out over functionality in some cases.

The term "Old School" has several meanings depending upon subject matter but in general it means back to the original. Some of the preaching one hears today is certainly not “Old school,” for some have departed from what the scriptures originally taught.

A couple of examples of departure from "Old School" teaching is found in Matthew 19:8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

Of course we have bona fide excuses for not following that admonition. The main reason is "We don't have faith to function at that level." Or “What if nothing happens when we pray?”

Today Christianity is in a struggle for its very existence world wide.

Conversions are not keeping up with population increases, and many are giving up their lives for their testimony for Jesus Christ.

The church is being weakened from within by putting social issues before the plain need of man's salvation. Some denominations are accommodating both sin and sinners in the pew and the pulpit.

The more honest ones are living sinful lives outside of the church, but there are those who are dishonest and are living sinful lives within the sanctuary.

Like Israel of old, this nation and our world need to turn back to GOD with both repentance, and conversion, and a good place to start would be within the church itself.

Today the church has the look of the church but the soul of it is sorely missing.

The hymn "Let Jesus come into your heart" has these words;

Just now, your doubting’s given o'er; Just now, reject Him no more;
Just now, throw open the door; Let Jesus come into your heart.

I remember times when company came over and we shut some of the doors so as to hide the clutter and disarray within the rooms. We didn't want anyone to see our mess. There may be areas of our life where we shut the door so no one will see our failings, notwithstanding the Lord Jesus both sees all and knows all.

A LITTLE DAB WILL DO YA

Ever since Brylcreem tried to convince men to use a product that is a pomade made from emulsion of water and mineral oil stabilized with beeswax; this Brylcreem jingle still pops up once in awhile.

Back in the days when it was a popular hair dressing the airwaves were filled with the jingle whose words were;

Bryl-creem, a little dab'll do ya, Use more, only if you dare, But watch out, The gals will all pursue ya,--They'll love to put their fingers through your hair.

Well take my word for it - - I never saw that happen because girls tried to avoid the greasy mess, and didn't want to get it on their hands or dress.

Much of life is based on that concept where someone or something has decided that "A little dab will do you" in many areas of our existence.

Without naming all the things this can be applied to - - from finances to health each of us have had to settle for what we could get.

Then in turn we react in the same way when dealing with people.

Husbands give their wives the little dab treatment, and in turn the wives relish giving their husbands the little dab is all you get.

Many of us have experienced something that changed us and that was the more abundant life we received in Christ. John 10:10 I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

There is no "Little dab" in Christ so we can act on the scripture Matthew 10:8b Freely you have received, freely give.

God isn't interested in the "Little dab" treatment in our service, our worship, our faithfulness or any other aspect of our relationship with HIM.

The "Little dab" signifies short changing whoever or whatever in our dealings with those around us. GOD especially doesn't want less than the full treatment.

HOW TO PRAY

If you want to find out how to pray you are looking at the wrong place.

I'm as confused as you are. Are you still there? If you are think about this!

Luke 11:9  So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Ask and it shall be given unto you.

John 15:7If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

Every prayer that is uttered is contingent upon obedience to that scripture.

“If you abide in me, and my words abide in you,” is ever present with you when you pray and is a controlling force in your ability to believe GOD for answers to prayer.

Jeremiah.17:9 The human mind is the most deceitful of all things. It is incurable. No one can understand how deceitful it is.

Incurable yes, controllable also yes through what Paul describes in Romans 12:2 Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

In prayer many (not all) times we are devious in praying. Now I know you will not believe this no matter how hard you try, but there was a woman who has prayed for an another woman's husband! She wanted GOD to break up a happy marriage, and let her have the husband for herself. I told you wouldn't believe it.

Well would you believe a man prayed for another man's job?

Now I know it is okay to be avaricious in everyday life and it seems to be alright, that is until you come to pray, then it isn't acceptable because Christ words are not abiding in you and you are not abiding in him.

Some say they get every prayer answered, but of course they are big liars.

Paul taught there are two ways to pray 1 Corinthians 14:15 So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit (praying in the spirit is another subject in itself), but I will also pray with my mind;

If I pray with my reborn spirit which is energized by the Holy Spirit then I will get it right but if I pray with my mind it must divest itself of all greed, covetousness, guile and that isn't easy to do for even if we have some serious business to do with GOD.

Maybe someone should say that uttering words isn't necessarily prayer even if they say in Jesus' name at the end, it is little more than an exercise in futility.

James 4:2-3 You want what you don't have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can't get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don't have what you want because you don't ask God for it. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

But then we all know about Hebrews 4: 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Well surely that includes me, for mercy and grace is what keeps me going.

The hill of the Lord and the throne of grace signify the same thing and Psalm 24:4 poses this question; Who shall ascend into the mountain of the Lord: or who shall stand in his holy place?

And then gives the answer in; Psalm 24:5 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood And has not sworn deceitfully.

Which brings us back to John 15:7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

Most prayers will not be answered and people will blame GOD for not responding to them for they ignore the rules laid down by Jesus.

Let me answer one last question: what about so and so - - they aren't walking upright and GOD answered their prayers? Well maybe HE did and maybe HE didn't, in any case as the song says "Mercy drops around us are falling"

Mercy is much like the law was a school master to bring us to Christ so also any grace extended to us is designed to draw us nearer to Christ though it is often misconstrued to mean our evil conduct is acceptable to GOD.
