RUTHIE

Some time back, my wife, Hazel bought some statuary and one was a piece about 30” tall. The statue was a young girl, bare foot, shy, virtuous, and had some wheat in her arm from gleaning in the field. Hazel named her statue, Ruth after the Bible story.

One day my young grandson who was about 3 years old saw it standing on the floor, and he stared at it for awhile. Then suddenly he swung his arm and knocked it, head over heels breaking it into several pieces. I must say grandma wasn’t too thrilled about that.

I picked up the pieces and eventually repaired it and it looked pretty good. A few days later the dogs went running through the house and did the same thing. Ruth just went to pieces. Once again I worked on it until I got it restored the best I could and now Ruthie is on display in a safer place.

The book of Ruth is a book of contrasts, of real bad times, a time of famine without any stimulus plan in the offing.

Elimelech and Naomi and their two sons decided it was time to “Get out of Dodge” and they went to Moab hoping for a better life. While in Moab the Elimelech died shortly after arriving there. Mahlon and Chilion liked the look of the Moabite women and married two of them, Orpha and Ruth. Then things got worse, the two sons died.

Talk about bad luck, Naomi was a stranger in the land of Moab what we might call an alien with little means of support. She heard that the famine was over and decided to return home, to where she had kinfolk.

When she was leaving she told her daughters in laws something interesting, go back home for I have nothing for you. I’m too old to have a new husband and children and even if I did, would you wait until they were grown and marry them? Now that wasn’t much of a prospect so Orpah decided to go home while Ruth wouldn’t leave Naomi.

This is the background for the story of how Ruth, a gentile became an ancestress of Jesus Christ.

Naomi and Ruth returned home and started over and with much smarts and effort things worked out better than they could have hoped for.

Naomi did two things; one she put her trust in GOD and two she put forth the effort required to change her situation.

In these times of economic turn down, I suspect that no one has it worse than she did. Admittedly it is not easy to look for the silver lining in these dark times.

When they asked Naomi how are things she answered; “Just call me bitter,” which was her appraisal of her condition.

For those who have joined the bitter club, perhaps they should take a second look at Naomi. Even in good times we need to declare; I need thee every hour, but much more so when times are bad.

A LITTLE DAB WILL DO YA

It must have been in the forties when this hair product began to use this slogan to advertise Bryl-cream.

Bryl-cream, a little dab'll do ya! Bryl-cream, you'll look so debonair.
Bryl-cream, the gals will all pursue ya, They'll love to RUN their fingers through your hair.

I used this Bryl-cream for quite awhile, it was better than the grease I had been using to plaster my hair down.  I began to think they were using false advertising for I kept waiting for the girls to pursue me (It never happened,) and if they ran their fingers through my hair they would have had to wash their hand for that stuff was sticky.

There have been times when I thought that GOD must think a little dab of his power moving in my life would do me.

I suppose I would like to have at least a miracle a day as a minimum and maybe a couple of healings but that hasn’t happened. I have ended up with the (as the song says) mercy drops round us are falling because that’s the way it has been.

Over the years many strange things have happened, some quite interesting. Within the scope of GOD’S spiritual gifts almost anything is possible, and can be manifested in a myriad of ways.

For instance we were in church one night doing our regular stuff and there was a grandmother from Guatemala that had been attending regularly and on this Sunday she had brought her son and family who were visiting from Guatemala.

Her young grandson was paralyzed from the waist down. When the time came for prayer the parents brought the boy who was about five years old, down to the front and asked for prayer for his healing. Atrophy had rendered his legs down to almost no muscle from his hips down. There wasn’t much else we could do but pray for him, we were trapped.

Here was an impossible task and a family who wanted their son to be normal and as the pastor and I and a couple of board members began to pray I had a ton of hope but very little faith that he would become normal. He hadn’t walked, he couldn’t walk.

We sat the child on the front seat of the church and people gathered around, the pastor got on his knees down to his level and took hold of his legs. He had scarcely began to pray when the legs began to fill out, muscle began to form, the pastors hands were expanded out as this was happening.  Shortly the boy stood up and began to walk all over the church.  As far as I know nothing has occured to this degree in the pastor’s ministry before or since but on that night something happened to loose the power of GOD and the miracle happened before our eyes.

Throughout my Christian life this is the way it has been, a healing here, deliverance there, victories won, some seemingly lost. Mercy drops are falling around me, while for the showers I'm pleading. A little dab just doesn't do me but it’s all I got.

LET THE SELLER BEWARE

When you are in business there are a few people who are not of goodwill.

My wife and I ran a roofing business for almost thirty years and I had to deal with some customers that tried to take advantage of us. I’m happy to say they were few and far between.

We had some who refused to pay and we had to lien the property and it took about a year to force payment and during that time they had free use of our money.

Some developers did business this way they saved a lot of interest and it was cheaper than borrowing form a bank.

Some would try to get you to settle for a percentage of what was owed and you would lose the balance. I saw several contractors struggle with this for they were owed so much money they had to have whatever they could get in order to stay in business.

I had some developers come to me and ask why I wouldn’t settle for less, they said all the other contractors did. I always told them I would settle for the contracted price and nothing less. I always got paid while many would lose thousands.

In all of the years we were in business there were only two jobs we didn’t get full payment. One job happened while we were attending Rhema Bible training center. My brother was running the business and the owner claimed he never signed the contract. Hazel flew back to California and our attorney suggested it would be better to settle for some less than to fight it in the courts. The amount was less than two hundred dollars that we lost.

Another case was a little strange in as much as I had a salesman who sold a roof to a person of color and after the job was finished she wouldn’t pay.

I spoke with her and told her she had signed the contract and we did the job, to which she agreed. She further said the job was fine and she was happy with it.

Upon further questioning she said she didn’t have any money and never had any intention of paying for it. I must admit I had to think about that for a minute, and then I asked why she had gotten several bids on the work to be done if she wasn’t going to pay for it? She explained that she wanted to get the best deal. That I couldn’t understand at all.

Then I asked why she choose us to do the roof? Her answer was she thought we would do the best job. About this time I asked if she was going to pay me. She said no because she had no money. Then I enquired why she bought something she couldn’t pay for and she said; "I needed a new roof and I got one !!"

We went through the process of filing a lien on her property and some years later a financial company asked about the lien for she was going to sell the house, so we told them what the pay off would be. She decided not to sell the property and that was the last I heard of it. In all those years I lost almost lost nothing, this was because most of my customers were honest and I always tried to satisfy them.

THE MINISTRY AND CRIMINAL LAW

If Jesus was ministering today in America how long would it be before he was put in jail?

How many laws would he be breaking while preaching to the masses of people? How would he react to the restrictions on giving forth the word of life?

Would he be bold in proclaiming himself being the SON of GOD? Would he be free to state there is only one GOD and that he himself was GOD?

In the book of John 2:1-11 Jesus turns water into wine. In today’s world he would be accused of being a bootlegger, and brought before the judge for not buying a liquor license and tax stamps, and be put in a federal prison.

Since most of His miracles revolved around healings, he would have been prosecuted for practicing medicine without a license. There would have been litigants by the thousands claiming He said they were healed, and they were not.

There would have been class action suits claiming they had been deceived into not taking their medicine, and had suffered damage to their health.

I can see the television ads saying if Jesus said you were healed, call our office and join in this class action suit now.

How about the raising of Lazarus from the dead? They could have tried him for fraud and deception, or for grave robbing.

Healing a demoniac boy; this could have been either witchcraft or intruding into the field of psychiatry. The I.R.S would have been after him for not filing a tax return, and not having a non profit license.

In John 21:4-11 here the penalty would have been commercial fishing without a license and exceeding the limit of fish.

These are but a few of the restrictions he would be in violation of.

The ministry today has many restrictions placed upon it today; much of it is for the protection of the members of the body of Christ. There are thieves and robbers within the church, that are lying in wait to take advantage of the faithful in CHRIST.

I now come to a subject with mixed emotions; the present day interpretation of the constitution of the U.S. Restricts us from placing the word of GOD on any state, local or federal property. Some years back I concluded that this prohibition as well as the teaching the Bible in the school system was ultimately the right thing to do.

The last I would want is to have my child taught all of the religions in the U.S. Including atheism, witchcraft, the Koran, and a thousand other false doctrines.

Years ago you wouldn’t have thought all the religions in the U.S. Would be considered the equal of Christianity and have equal rights under the constitution but the concerted effort to eliminate the Christian witness from this country has brought us to this condition today. This seems to be the situation today and nothing short of a true revival in this land today can stem the tide of unrighteousness that flourishes in this land.

I WONDER WHAT THEY MEANT

So often I have difficulty in reading what someone has written. I can with much effort read the words, but as they are put together, I can’t understand them.

Then I wonder what they meant by that?

Language at times is used to create an illusion; where we think we see something, but admittedly, later we realize that it wasn’t what we thought it was, and are not sure if it was anything at all.

During election time the practice of illusionary rhetoric is used rather than simple statements of truth. After hearing some speakers you might confess to your ignorance by admitting; I don't know what he said, but it must have been good.

Many of Lincoln’s statements were interesting;

Lincoln's first Inaugural Address, March 4, 1861; “While the people retain their virtue, and vigilance, no administration, by any extreme of wickedness or folly, can very seriously injure the government, in the short space of four years."

He might want to revise this statement in light of the present administration.

The Tea Party would probably subscribe to a statement by James Madison;
"A little rebellion now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical. It is a medicine necessary for the sound health of government."

Thomas Jefferson, in a letter to James Madison, January 30, 1787. wrote:

“The issue of rights guaranteed by the constitution is an on-going, losing, struggle for each day the local, county, state and federal governments are diminishing the people’s rights.”

The following is an argument that the Supreme Court would dismiss without consideration:

“Even though unionists have placed great stock in the Preamble, their recitations rarely extend past the first 15 words... The presence in the Preamble of the phrase, "We, the People of the United States" was an accident! It originally read: 'That the people of the States of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia do ordain, declare and establish the following constitution for the government of ourselves and our posterity.' It was amended, not for the purpose of submitting the constitution to the people in the aggregate, but because the convention could not tell, in advance, which States would ratify it."

James Ostrowski; 'Was the Union Army's Invasion of the Confederate States a Lawful Act? An Analysis of President Lincoln's Legal Arguments Against Secession' in Secession, State, and Liberty.

Lincoln's view of the Union as irrevocable and inescapable is both historical and immoral. His notion that the Union created the States. is as absurd as someone claiming a child fathered its own parents. The Federal Government is not a partner in a marriage, but rather the offspring of a marriage between the sovereign States.

The States rights argument is grossly ignored today, its back to Lincoln, for only he knew how to rule.

The Civil War caused and allowed a tremendous expansion of the size and power of the federal government. It gave us our first federal conscription law, first progressive income tax, first enormous standing army; it gave us a higher tariff, and greenbacks.

James McPherson writes approvingly: "This astonishing blitz of laws - - Did more to reshape the relation of the government to the economy than any comparable effort except perhaps the first hundred days of the New Deal.  This Civil War Legislation - - Created the blueprint for modern America."

Albert Jay Nock was more critical of the war's impact, especially on the Constitution: "Lincoln overruled the opinion of Chief Justice Taney, that suspension of habeas corpus was unconstitutional, and in consequence the mode of the State was, until 1865, a monocratic military despotism - - The doctrine of 'reserved powers' was knaved up Ex post facto (Ex post facto laws are expressly forbidden by the United States Constitution) as a justification for his acts, but as far as the intent of the constitution is concerned, it was obviously pure invention.

In fact, a very good case could be made out for the assertion that Lincoln's acts resulted in a permanent radical change in the entire system of constitutional 'interpretation'- - that since his time 'interpretations' have not been interpretations of the constitution, but merely of public policy - - A strict constitutionalist might indeed say that the constitution died in 1861, and one would have to scratch one's head pretty diligently to refute him."

And so it goes, the piece of paper that guarantees any hope of freedom is being changed at will by people who want to enforce “their will” upon the people.

FAMILY

The most valuable thing in America is the family.

There are many groups that are considered family such as church family, organizations like the Masons and even the military especially in time of war.

There are some strange make-ups within the military; I read about a soldier who, speaking of his squad said; "Some of us hate each other but when engaged in battle we would willingly die for one another."

Another disparity in the family structure is the drive of the gay community who are trying to redefine what a family is.

The reinterpretation of the constitution by liberal justices has amounted to an attack on the family unit. The acceptance of the same sex agendas will ultimately force Christians to reject the government model and establish a new criterion for family status.

There are also some who, for whatever reason opt out of the family and go their way alone, this is always sad but it’s just the way it is.

The basic family consists of those who are born into the family unit, married into it, and broadening out to include adoption and fostering those in need.

Some friends are so close that they are included as one of the family.

When the family functions as a family there is security, safety and loving care. This is getting more difficult due to the many of the family members living far apart. I have many relatives who I have only seen a couple of times and is almost like they are strangers.

With some of my grandkids living several hundred miles from me I don’t get to see them but once or twice a year and we don’t get to really know each other very well.

I suspect that I seem like some old guy that is out of touch with today’s reality. There maybe some truth to that for I don’t buy into the lack of commitment lifestyle, which I view as failure going down.

Every family needs to be together often, for relationship without fellowship breeds a meaninglessness feeling for the family, and that is undesirable.

The most secure thing you will find on earth is a close knit family that loves one another.

TEMPTATION

Temptation, wow what trip? What would life be without it?

Without temptation in my life, it would be dullsville; all would be blah, blah, blah.

The first temptation in the Bible was when Satan was tempted to rebel against GOD and got the left foot of fellowship and was kicked out of heaven. Not only was he booted out but one third of the angels went with him.

When GOD created man, Satan tried to get even with GOD by tempting man to sin against GOD and mess up GOD’S plan for a heaven on earth. Satan came to Eve and tempted her, and she experienced a titillation she had never known before. She knew what was being suggested was against what GOD had told her to do, but she had no defense for the overwhelming desire that rose up within her and she capitulated and sinned.

Adam suffered the same fate and he messed up big time. There seems to be no limit to the ways you can be tempted, it’s a something for everybody thing.

Temptation" is usually used in a loose sense to describe actions which indicate a lack of self control. A temptation is an act that looks appealing to an individual; and there is a subconscious sense of pride that the person feels because they feel drawn toward an object of temptation.

Sexual temptation is in the fore front as an example of this, a guy sees a woman walk by and the full arsenal of temptation is loosed upon him. He is faced with every thought that pertains to sex. This all happens within a few seconds. This experience feels so good that he is anxious for the next experience. A quote from a sermon at:  http://www.essortment.com/all/temptationchris_rcbl.htm

“Temptations are opportunities that either strengthen us or corrupt us” is a good thing to keep in mind when temptation comes your way. We can be tempted by most anything that pertains to living. Temptation tests our maturity, should you want to know how mature you are in Christ just observe how you handle temptation.

In all of its forms it will titillate you; stir up a desire to do something that is verboten, something you know isn’t the right thing to do. Spending money that you don’t have, gossiping when you know it could hurt someone.

Temptation is like Lon Chaney “The man with a thousand faces,” in everyway and everywhere you turn it is waiting, ready to pounce on you. It waits for your response.

In many cases yielding to temptation is a price more than you want to pay but even knowing this isn’t enough to deter you from yielding.

This Song; personifies temptation
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqKRy_uXgYc

1 Cor. 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is unusual for human beings. But God is faithful, and he will not allow you to be tempted beyond your strength. Instead, along with the temptation he will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to endure it.

THINK THINK THINK OF SOMETHING ELSE

I have this malady whereby things just pop up in my mind without trying to think about them.

My first reaction is “Where did that come from?” Most of the time, it is something from the past with little relevance to my life now. It was just something that happened and I moved on past it. Sometimes it was a bigger event, and then I am forced to relive part of it. If it is a pleasant occurrence I enjoy trying to remember some of the finer details, but if it was unpleasant I have to experience the hurt all over again.

The worst time to have this happen is when you are trying to go to sleep, it won’t turn you loose, and it grinds away on you and can make you sick.

I try to short circuit my thought pattern and move on to something else. For awhile I bounce back and forth between the bad memory and the new thought I have brought up, until finally my interest level squelches the bad memory.

The best of us has had some unpleasant experiences, and it seems they are hiding, ready to pounce on us again.

So, what do you do with bad memories? It depends upon the seriousness of the happening. If it is an insignificant thing, just put it in the business as usual, category, things happen. It is a “so what” issue, let’s forget it and move on.

Perhaps if it is a little more of a mid-level gaffe, and needs closure. Contemplating the old adage, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” should give you a guideline for the healing process. If you are the one offended, be open to reconciliation, but don’t wait for the offending party to act. It may be time to move on by them and consider them unimportant in your scheme of things. If later they wish to redeem themselves, you can afford to be gracious enough to be civil but move on.

Then there are those things that cause you to be obsessed over. It could be something you have done, and had severe repercussions that lead to guilt and remorse. Then you must do something to meditate the issue. It may need immediate action or the dust may need to settle for awhile before taking action.

The most outstanding thing about the past is “It is past.” There is nothing you can do about it, one way or another. If it was good, enjoy the memories, if it was painful then refuse all future suffering from something you can’t correct. Saying you’re sorry may help an offended party feel better but it doesn’t change the facts.

Being sorry is helpful when it is used as a learning tool, but you have to get in the, “I’ll never do that again,” mode.

This seems like a lot to remember and further a lot to do. The next time I can’t sleep I’m going to forget all this stuff and just to take a melatonin pill that should take care of it, and then I’m just gonna let it all go.

THE DREADED DARKNESS

The church from the beginning was fraught with soulical errors.

If you notice Paul the Apostle spends most of his writings trying to correct these mistakes. The “Darkness of the mind,” issue was one of the most important of these problems.

Eph 4:17-21 “So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles (unsaved) also walk, in the futility of their mind, being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness.  But you did not learn Christ in this way, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus. . .”

These scriptures point out potential flaws in the church that can be devastating.

See if you can view a canvas where the profile of a Christian is being visualized. With each brush stroke more is being revealed; futility of the mind, inability to understand spiritual things, unable to access the power of GOD. Hardness of heart, that chokes out the love toward GOD. Accepting the, “Anything goes,” attitude. Impurity, and greediness, are the soul bondage twins. These are brother and sister problems that Paul is trying to correct.

Darkness comes in another form besides the way you conduct yourself and that is; demonic spiritual oppression, where you feel you are all alone. Where the heavens are made of brass and you can’t get through to GOD. New Christians are targets for this satanic attack at a time when they have limited spiritual resources.

One such occasion happened to me just after I was saved. I lived in a cheap hotel and was doing alright. I managed to buy some church clothes and always dressed nice.

A short time after church one Sunday I came home to my room and was waiting for the evening service when there was a presence in the room. The light was on but it felt like there was a darkness completely enveloping me. It was so strong that I could hardly think. I had bought me a Bible for a couple of dollars and not knowing what else to do I began to read it. I can’t fully explain the nature of what IT was; only that it was almost overpowering. As I read God’s Word, the force lessened, and after about an hour it was gone. In over sixty years I haven’t experienced it again.

Just being saved, I wasn’t prepared for a spiritual battle of that nature, but there was something about the word of GOD being implanted in me that broke the power of that awful darkness. Because this experience was so off the wall I have kept it to myself except for a couple of people.

Jesus knew a lot more about resisting the evil one, and he went directly to the word of GOD and quoted it with out arguing with the devil.

If you have been saved for awhile, chances are you have had an experience where you were attacked in some way. Paul is explaining that we can weaken and open ourselves to the power of the Satan by slipping back through carelessness and disobedience.

This is like taking the armor of GOD off and removing GOD’S protection form us. Let’s put on the whole armor of GOD, and keep it on and use it continually

YOUR BEST FRIEND

Can you remember who was - - or now is your best friend?

Usually we don’t think about why they are our friends, it’s just a case of simpatico, a connection, and a comfort zone where trust is assumed and expected.

The teenage years could be called the trauma years for the teens experience trauma weekly. In order to be accepted they have to be vulnerable and receptive to a great deal of idiocy. Their lack of experience (the best teacher) causes them to depend on their “know nothing” peers.

I can still remember some of the expert advice and information I received from some of my friends. Even now I empathize with their ignorance. They would look extremely proud as they explained the facts of life to the uninitiated.

Love and hate was flying in all directions, as each week some girl or boy was dumped and left broken hearted.

Then the phenomena of the support groups would take place. Last weeks darling was this weeks ba , , , . (illegitimate child) and all would join the “I the hate fest.”

The parents getting a divorce would run the whole gamut of emotions, the one thing they thought could be depended on, no longer existed. Next “enter” the new step dad or mom. Being put upon to look down inside and find some unused love to heap on the new step parent is enough to cause one to join trauma anonymous.

Then the worst one of all, your best friend, one you would die for, betrays you. You have shared all your secrets with them, your very inner being has been exposed to them and now the one you trusted has turned on you, it is an act of treason.

This is the one you never get over, years later the pain is still there.

While many friends fall by the wayside there are a precious few that last for a lifetime. They will number three or four at most but they are like pure gold.

I don’t know how any of us made it through those traumatic years but here we are battered but not bowed.

Wounded and scarred but you wouldn’t have wanted to miss any of it; for these years made you what you are today. A survivor

EVEN BY TENNESSEE STANDARDS

I were born in Tennessee at home, which were normal by Tennessee standards.

Actually my mother were about 18 year old when I was born which were a little old by Tennessee standards.

My pappy were about 40 year old when they got married but that was tolerable by Tennessee standards.

We lived both in the country and the town so I had the best and the worst of both worlds. Due to pappy’s job we traveled around a lot which was unusual by Tennessee standards but we saw many towns and people.

At about the age of five I discovered that there is a distinct difference between boys and girls (the timing of which were normal by Tennessee standards.) But that didn’t worry me much, I figured the girls would have to deal with their problem without any help from me.

Being raised in the city the next few years I hung out with the boys. We didn’t have a gang, just guys standing around the corner together doing nothing.

When by Tennessee standards I should have got interested in courting we moved back to the country where girls were few and far between. There were some who were too young even by Tennessee standards and the 14 or 15 year old usually moved to town.

I were friendly with some black folks but that wasn’t an option for courting by Tennessee standards.

There were a couple of girls who was the sisters of my best friend but it didn’t seem right to get close to them.

No one talked about sex education, you learned by watching the animals starting with the chickens. With the roosters it was a love’em and leave’em proposition.

This was about all the education some guys must have got for that was what they always practiced. I thought there must be more to that than that. Actually there was a lot more, because those guys spent a lot of time with the doctor getting treatments. I thought they must be healthy with all that care they were getting. But even by Tennessee standards for boasting they didn’t brag about it much. I guess they didn’t want people to think they were uppity.

I moved back to town and in order to be normal by Tennessee standards I couldn’t ignore girls any longer and………..

ANOTHER DAY IN OROVILLE

I would have liked to have said, “Another day in Paradise” but Paradise (city) is forty minutes north of me. My day wouldn’t have been a reflection of the Paradisiacal imagery projected by being in the Edenic Paradise enjoyed by Adam.

My day started at six o’clock am. I was more awake than asleep but was still stumbling around. As I took inventory of my state I discovered I wasn’t feeling well. My usual remedy was to get a cup of coffee, and on my way to make coffee I stopped at the scale and weighed myself. The nonjudgmental scale informed me that I had gained three pounds since yesterday.

In total disbelief I uttered the usual; OH NO!

I continued on my way to make some coffee, but I not only felt bad but now I was also depressed about the weight. Immediately my problem solving capability engaged, and the only thing it came up with was “Don’t eat breakfast”

So now I felt bad, had gained weight, was depressed and was also hungry.

I was praying that the phone wouldn’t ring, and someone tell me some bad news.

Soon the mail would be delivered, and on occasion I have received some distress from being informed my bank account was overdrawn. I decided not to go get the mail today.

We were scheduled to go out for lunch, and I ordered the largest meal they served, and I was determined to eat it all. From out of the blue the accusing thought came to me; today if you eat too much, tomorrow the scale will “tell it like it is.”

Now I felt worse, I was depressed, was stuffed to the point of being uncomfortable, I needed to rest, and I feared having to face that scale tomorrow.

After a nap, I did a few chores, and before long it was time to go to bed and get some beauty sleep. It will be interesting to see what tomorrow will bring; on another day, forty minutes south of Paradise.

FUTURE PLANNING

We are all encouraged to plan for the future.

For some, it may be saving for retirement; or insurance of all types, and don’t forget burial plots.

Some religions say to plant a seed here, and somehow it will be harvested on the other side.

The federal government helps us to plan, by passing laws that encourage savings, some of which have a mandate, and you will be incarcerated if you don’t comply.
In the health arena some plan for long life by regular health checkups, while others neglect and abuse their bodies and die young.

Jesus spoke at length about the present and the future, how to live now and the rewards in the future.

The ant and the grasshopper illustrate the folly of not being prepared for the future.

I find it strange that people who are warned about danger will yet ignore the warning and will perish. There were warnings of impending danger in Bhopal India chemical plant, but they ignored these warnings and it resulted in the deaths of 15,000 people, with another 500,000 injuries with 40,000 disabled. They knew of the danger and yet didn’t accept the obvious.

Jesus spoke of an impending danger; Mat 24:37- 39 Mat 24:37
For just as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be when the Son of Man comes. In those days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage right up to the day when Noah went into the ark. They were unaware of what was happening until the flood came and swept them all away.

That's how it will be when the Son of Man comes.

This warning is there for all to read and yet is ignored by many. His return will set off a series of events culminating in the future choice for all.

You make your choice for heaven or hell now, there is no third option.

For those who have chosen hell or Geheena their future is secure and they will get what they want. Imagine, being cast into a place created for the devil and his angels, no night, no day, just continual misery.

Those who choose heaven will have everlasting joy and happiness. I think of times when I was really happy, this will be my continuous state only more so.

Well I have planned for my eternal future, but I still have to daily make preparations for the on going daily tasks until then.

Now is not the time to faint but to keep going on until Jesus returns.

HUMPTY DUMPTY WORLD

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.

All the king's horses, and all the king's men, Couldn't put Humpty together again
This rhyme has been used to depict many things in different ways. At one time it was a riddle but now it is just a rhyme. In one frame of reference it could mean irreparable damage. An irreparable damage or injury is, in tort law or equity, "The type of harm which no monetary compensation can cure or put conditions back the way they were...."

It is damage where no amount of money can compensate the harm that is being done, or will be done.

A medium of the subsequent damage is the humping, dumping syndrome which dictates so many lives today.

It not only used in the personal life structure but also in the business world as well. Briefly you have an instigator, and an object to be taken advantage of.

Scams are being used extensively using this method where they involve you by using one of your weaknesses such as; compassion, greed, bargain hunting, get rich quick, romantic needs and a slew of others.

These humpers are expert in this field and quickly take advantage of you.

This humping technique is prevalent in personal relationships where either one or both use the other to attain some level of satisfaction.

In today’s world the word relationship is used as a measure of success as when applied to what was once called “a shack up” situation.

Like humpty while sitting on the wall a moment of satisfaction was enjoyed, but the fallen humpty and the resulting condition was devastation.

These Quasi marriage relationships are meant to be temporary at least on ones part and dumping is just around the corner. The scarcely existent commitment is a moment by moment situation. Whether in business or love, the humping and dumping method is in play and the only defense is less exposure to the danger and the way to do that is to stay off the wall.

There is a high to being on the wall but the only way to go is down.

In Humpty’s case the only thing left was to be scraped up and try to go on. To make the most of what’s left; rehearsing what might have been, only if I hadn’t of.

A closer look will reveal that most everyone has scars and wounds, and has experienced the humping and dumping treatment to one degree or another.

Sadly, for some it has occurred within the church and it is a double blow from which some do not recover. Many are left to deal with distrust of others so severe that they have built a wall around themselves that keeps even GOD out.

You have the power to take your wall down and allow God in! Do it now!

HONEST INJUN

Honest Injun was a phrase we kids used to attest to the truth of a statement.

Other expressions were; I swear on my mother’s grave, or cross my heart and hope to die if it isn't true.

Endeavoring to be honest is a must for a Christian because it is one of the methods we are measured by. While I control things like stealing, lying, and deliberately deceiving someone, there are some things like taxes, speeding, and a whole slew of small things that are on a sliding scale. It is the small things that can give me the most trouble.

The most feared thing the Christian has to deal with is self deception for it will allow one to do things that can greatly injure the cause of Christ, to themselves and also others.

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on James 1: 22-25
If we heard a sermon every day of the week, and an angel from heaven were the preacher, yet, if we rested in hearing only, it would never bring us to heaven.

Mere hearers are self-deceivers; and self-deceit will be found to be the worst deceit. If we flatter ourselves, it is our own fault; the truth, as it is in Jesus, flatters no man. Let the word of truth be carefully attended to, and it will set before us the corruption of our nature, the disorders of our hearts and lives; and it will tell us plainly what we are. Our sins are the spots the law discovers: Christ's blood is the laver (place for washing) the gospel shows. But if in vain we hear God's word, and when we look into the gospel mirror we go away, and forget our spots, instead of washing them off; and forget our remedy, instead of applying it, we remain the same, and unchanged.

I found those words to be challenging. Often people are hindered from drawing nigh unto GOD, so he will draw nigh to them, and because of not doing what GOD’S word plainly says.

If we don’t take the words of scripture serious enough to cause us to obey them, then the likelihood of them being fulfilled in other areas our life is greatly diminished. The promises of GOD, the manifestation of spiritual gifts, and the ministry gift that is given to each one may be absent from our lives and we will be left with a “What might have been” scenario.

Then on the other hand I might be wrong, perhaps there is a mighty move of GOD that is sweeping millions into the kingdom of GOD here in America and I’m just out of touch.

I can’t see how we can have faith for a mighty move of the SPIRIT of GOD if we can’t have faith enough to walk in the SPIRIT and be led by the SPIRIT.

Oh, well there is always hope for; “One man shall chase a thousand: for the LORD your God, he it is the one that fights for you, as he hath promised you. Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love Jehovah your God.”

Even in today’s world, obedience is still better than sacrifice.

1Samuel 15:22 Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice to hearken than the fat of rams.

GLORY, GLORY

One of the hardest things to do is give GOD glory when we are carrying a burden; it saps the entire shout out of us.

Eccl. 12:5 When the almond tree blossoms, the grasshopper is a burden.

How often, does that which should be a blessing, is hampered by an unwanted issue.

Burdens come in at least two varieties; one is the kind where you have no control over and the other is that which you must deal with.

These problems have been written about in poems and songs like “Burdens are lifted at Calvary, and Take your burden to the LORD and leave it there.

If the world from you withhold of it’s silver and it’s gold,
And you have to get along on meager fare,
Just remember in his word, how he feeds the little bird;
Take your burden to the LORD and leave it there.
Leave it there, leave it there,
Take your burden to the LORD and leave it there.
If you trust and never doubt, he will surely bring you out.
Take your burden to the LORD and leave it there

The things you can’t control must be dealt with, and the way to deal with them is to cast all your care upon the LORD, and leave it there.

Someone might say “that doesn’t work”, and that is true if you still hold on to it. It requires you to release it and “trust and never doubt” and HE, NOT YOU will surely bring you out.

Just give it a sling and let the LORD deal with it. Problems can't be ignored and hope they will go away.

Now as to the things that are to be borne. There are some things that have to be dealt with; there is no way to go around it.

There are too many things to mention, but issues like health, money, and problems with relationships. The kids are acting like a fool. The husband or wife has lost their mind, they also can’t be ignored and hope they will go away.

The first thing you need to do is to follow Jesus’ example, when he had issues He prayed.  He “Had a little talk with the Father” and when he finished, he then took the next step.

There is one thing that is common to all Christians and that is the ability to “be strong in the Lord and in the power of HIS might.”

As strange as it seems not every Christian takes advantage of this and it shows when the crisis comes.

Being strong in the Word, knowing who you are in GOD is a faith builder and when you go to the throne of GOD you not only plea for mercy but will have a strong assurance that you will have your need met.

How should I pray? Paul said I will pray two ways I will pray with my understanding, and I will pray with the spirit.

Praying with your mind has certain problems, which are, the mind tries to concoct a prayer that will get an answer.

We try to believe, to ask in faith, quote scripture (this is helpful since GOD can’t remember what He said or promised) for the mind isn’t all that helpful unless it is a prayer of agreement where others hear and agree with what is being prayed.

Sometimes we make the mistake of thinking faith is of the mind when in actuality is of the heart. A strong relationship with GOD makes answered prayer more probable.

Praying in the spirit, why is this important? Why is this more effective than praying with the mind?

First it is prayed in the language of the inner man (spirit) given by the SPIRIT for that purpose.

Second there is a direct connection from your spirit to GOD’S spirit without any attempt to impress HIM with rhetoric and thought manipulation.

It is like an encrypted e-mail to GOD who automatically decrypts it. The prayer in the spirit is always a prayer, prayed in faith for doubt is of the mind.

HUSBAND SCHOOL

I enrolled in husband school, back on December first, nineteen forty nine about eight o’clock that evening.

I lost my membership in the courting school at the same time.

The changing hats, so to speak were a shock to both Hazel and me. The usual stuff happened to us like moving in together and sharing the same bed and stuff.

I have to admit I wasn’t great at courting but was even worse at this husband business.

We were both attending a pretty strict church, one that believed that the Word of GOD meant what it said, and applied personally to us. We didn’t belong to the Christian fornication club so after our wedding we steered clear of that area. Our motto was forsaking all others.

I didn’t really understand how poor we were until after the wedding, and had to pay our bills. We lived in a very small apartment with a wall bed, share bath, a closet size kitchen with an ice box instead of a refrigerator, but we were always near each other, which was good.

After enjoying those living quarters for a couple months we found a three room apartment and bought our first refrigerator, which was a big step for us.

Soon after I discovered that passion can take a boyfriend and turn him into a husband and a father in no time at all.

Doing without was an amazing experience, I would recommend it to every one. It is one of the best teachers of reality I know of, and if you can accept it, you will be a better person from the knowledge of hands on learning.

For several years Hazel and I became much better persons because of it and discovered little is much when GOD is in it.

The apostle Paul express it thusly; “I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need, and then he said; I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

What a testimony!

You never graduate from husband school, you can quit, be a failure, but you never graduate, just keep learning and hopefully apply what you have learn.   (Enjoy the song below)

THE GOOD TIMES HAVE ROLLED

The one good thing about being older is that you have lived through some of the best times in history.

Radio was still in its infancy and television was still a dream. Libraries were a popular place to spend an evening and the movie theater was where fantasies were born.

Lowell Thomas was for many years the narrator for movietone news and Lew Lehr was a comedian, writer and editor known for his humorous contributions to Fox movietone news, and his catchphrase "Monkeys is the cwaziest peoples" was his lead-in to some humorous movie clips.

You learned to appreciate your money and made it go as far as you could.

You knew every automobile and the different models they produced. You would run home after school to listen to the kid’s radio shows and wish you had the money to buy the decoder rings they sold.

Ethnic groups lived in the same neighborhood without any problems and families spoke their native tongue in the home making their children bilingual without demanding special ethnicity treatment.

The music, the music was a catalyst that molded all groups together in mood and expression. For me, it all started in the twenties; actually I almost missed the twenties being born little over two months before the end of it. Some interesting facts of the twenties were;

106,521,537 people in the United States; 2,132,000 unemployed, Unemployment 5.2%
Life expectancy: Male 53.6, Female 54.6;
343.000 in military (down from 1,172,601 in 1919)
Average annual earnings $1236; Teacher’s salary $970; Dow Jones High 100 Low 67
Illiteracy rate reached a new low of 6% of the population.
Gangland crime included murder, swindles, racketeering
It took 13 days from California to New York. There were 387,000 miles of paved road.
The twenties were a little too salty for my taste for it was the jazz age and I liked the blues far better. They fit the countries mood and justified all kinds of failure.

Great music continued through the fifties and then the spiral downward started and continues today. What we had in the early days is gone; there is no returning to it, just a memory in the minds of those who lived it.

What now? There is still a now and we are in it. Is there a word from GOD for this generation?

Matt.20:16 “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.  Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom; Yea, with all thy getting get understanding."

The words for this generation are found in the book of Proverbs, if they are read and received into the heart they will sustain those who are willing and obedient. Those who will neglect GODS wisdom will……perish ?

MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS

Something I have always been able to see in older people is how set in their ways they are.

For the most part if you suggest they should try a different way they just look at you and you can see that they are thinking many thoughts about me, minding my own business.

One thing they wish to say is, “Mind your own bees wax.”

“Mind your own business:" A common English saying which asks for a respect of other people's privacy. It can mean that a person should stop meddling in what does not concern you, and attend to your own personal affairs instead of others.

It really tests a person’s nerves when someone has to constantly know what you’re doing, where you’re going, and why you’re doing that.

I found some of the following interesting; it can be very irritating and frustrating when someone feels that they just have to butt in to your conversation.

But what if you are the one doing it to other people. You don't want to annoy people, so here are some excellent tips.

1. Try not to butt in. Some people might have no trouble minding their own business and could care less about what you're doing or talking about. But others can't help it. It's just natural for them to butt in on everything

2. Ask yourself why you are butting in. Before you go interrupt someone, ask yourself: "Does this concern me?" whether what they are doing is going to somehow affect you in anyway, and does it concern you. But if it's just gossip or someone is going out with their friend, then it doesn't concern you

3. Become oblivious and disinterested. Try to be the least interested in people as possible. Be oblivious to what goes on around others, this doesn't mean to be oblivious and completely ignore everybody. Just learn when the right time to interrupt someone is, and if it is any of your business.

There is hardly anything someone is doing that I don’t have an opinion about, and feel I have a better solution. Much of the time I am wrong because I don’t have all the information concerning the issue, and even if I am right then I must only suggest something when they won’t take offence at my interfering.

It comes down to this: everyone has an opinion. They would like to have an opportunity to express it. Much of the time people aren’t interested in what you want to say, but listen just to be polite.

Carpenters have a saying; measure twice and cut once. It would serve us well if we thought more than once and then decide if your input is helpful or necessary. Just because you thought of something; it doesn’t mean it is necessary for you to verbalize it.

As for me, I am set in my ways with no intention to change unless it is absolutely necessary.

SOONER THAN LATER

If I didn’t know better I would think that America is in big trouble.

Thank - - which ever god we are permitted now to thank for that.

Are we just a reflection of what this country used to be?

Part of the lyrics of the old song “Paper Moon” says;

Say, its only a paper moon Sailing over a cardboard sea,
But it wouldn't be make-believe, If you believed in me (America)

Yes, it's only a canvas sky Hanging over a muslin tree,
But it wouldn't be make-believe, If you believed in me (America

Without your love It's a honky-tonk parade,
Without your love It's a melody played in a penny arcade
It's a Barnum and Bailey world, Just as phony as it can be,
But it wouldn't be make-believe, If you believed in me. (America)

Since the days of President Carter the congress has sold out the American people to the nations abroad while we were distracted by illusion that we were suppose to defend the good guys from the bad guys.

Our justification for being was; “We are the defenders of the downtrodden and will fight to the death to defend them no matter whether they want us to or not.”

Reagan had an energy plan but it was soon shot down by congress and caused us to be totally dependent of foreign oil. The “No” new development of new sources of energy has brought us to the edge of enslavement through debt. Our illusion of greatness is fast fading away for the government is corrupt to the core.

California has contributed to the demise of America by sending to congress two of the worst senators plus house leader Pelosi.

Not only are we in debt, but the plans are to keep on going further in debt in the foreseeable future, just as long as other nations will accept our printing press money we will keep printing and spending.

It has been said; “money is power”, there are two methods the socialists are using to control the individuals of America one is the redistribution of wealth; this will result in everyone being poor, and spending money we don’t have, which puts us in debt. The basic concept of socialism is ultimately every thing belongs to the government. While they allow you to hold title to it, they can take as much as they want from you through varied kinds of taxes.

1975 Ronald Reagan’s great quote “there are 151 taxes in a mere loaf of bread,” and Obama says that taxes are increasing.

Once upon a time we bought land to add to America, The Louisiana Purchase, and Alaska and it enlarged this country. We now are faced with the prospect of having to sell off things like the national parks and other holdings by the government.

Some will say it will never happen, but just cut off all oil imports and let them demand payment with something besides paper money.

Who in congress will stand against the sale of anything we have should the need arise. Still we have our illusion, business as usual, alls well that ends well, a big Hollywood finish where the good guys win and gets the girl.

Whether we believe it or not America is in big trouble.

ALMOST

I heard a story about a young man who had met a young lady and was quite smitten by her. From that time on he spent as much time with her as possible. All kinds of fanciful ideas were going through his mind, about marriage, the future, family and such. He finally bought a ring, and the moment came when he was about to “pop the question;” but there was another question that was bothering him. When he couldn’t stand it any longer, he gained the courage to ask her; “Are you a virgin?”

She paused, and after a time she replied; "Almost."

I recall a time when I had to ride a school bus to town to go to school and I conveniently missed it on purpose. Upon returning home I explained, “I almost caught it but I was just a little late.”

My mother declared. “Get in the car, you are going to school,” and away we went.

Paul the apostle was taken before King Agrippa and after Paul had spoke at length about his conversion the king spoke and said; "Almost, you persuade me to become a Christian."

Life is full of “ALMOSTs;” I almost got that job or I almost won at bingo, just missed it by one number.

ALMOST belongs to the category of not quite, and a day late and a dollar short

To say; I ALMOST got saved and made it to heaven is like saying I ALMOST missed going to Geheena.

There is another word that has far reaching affects and that is the word “UNLESS.”

Jesus used it several times when teaching; Then he said, "I tell you the truth, UNLESS you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.”

And again Jesus spoke; "I tell you the truth, UNLESS a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3).

Wow, ALMOST and UNLESS are words shouting for a wake up call.

How will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard,

In some circumstances, ALLMOST is what you might call passable but the shortfall in salvation brings consequences that are too great.

My best advice is to; Seek the LORD while he may be found. Call on him while he is near. Http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHz6KDb38Jk

HOW OLD?

Being the product of a second marriage, my father was about 40 when I was born. I don’t have the exact date, but he was born around 1890 which was a little over 100 years after the independence of this country.

Though my father was more forward thinking than many of his generation, but still while growing up I was exposed to some of the turn of the century thinking, and it had an impact on my early years and still is embedded in my psyche.

While some of my ancestors on my mothers side were educators, my grandfather choose the rural way of living, in other words; dirt farming.

So I was influenced by the “doctrine of factual impact” which simply means if you don’t work you don’t eat.

Independence to the farmer meant you took care of yourself; it wasn’t the safest way to live but carried with it a sense of pride, something that is fading away with each generation.

Living on the dole was an embarrassment and a shame then, while today it is considered to be a preferred life style for many. To others it is the product of a broken system.

If the politicians and the educators from the sixties have proven anything it is that education and intelligence also brings with it a deficiency of common sense.

The social engineering that is going on today will only end up being a caste system whose high mark will be slavery for most.

I was reminded of an interview with a young boy who was about thirteen and the moderator asked him about his travels in Europe. It was obvious that he had been well educated and spoke with great fluency. When asked about seeing antiques he said that what we would consider antiques were no big deal over there, they were thought of in terms of antiquities.

All a sudden it came to me how old the countries were in Europe and how young America is. It was somewhere about 1783 that England finally signed off on the documents giving up their claims on the United States. This means we are a little over 200 years old depending on when you start counting.

Adolph Hitler’s third Reich was suppose to last 1000 years, it lasted from 1933-1945.

Alexander the great conquered the then known world and his reign lasted 13 years.

The thing we can learn from this is; no matter how strong a country is, it doesn’t take long to bring it down. The first step is to break down the morals; from there you can go in any direction, for all roads lead to destruction.

WHEN THINGS ARE GOING GOOOOOD

When I have plenty of money, when my health is good, when the kids are behaving, and I have more friends than I can afford, when I feel self sufficient in all areas; I feel only a little need for GOD.

It is seldom that all these things are the order of the day but in trying to make a point I’ll assume such is the case.

When each of the above is factual, then I can lose my objectivity concerning my relationship with GOD. If I have plenty of money (don’t I wish) I can lose sight of; “It is HE that gives me power to get rich.”

Suppose my health is great, I don’t need healing so I don’t need help from GOD on this issue. The kids are little angels, obedient, well mannered and doing well in school. I don’t need help in that area. I have many friends, we party every weekend. That makes it easy to forget that Jesus is my friend in the time of need.

I do go to church and receive a bit of titillation from the songs and sermons, but don’t really need it; it’s more of a social thing.

Well that’s me when everything is going well, but suppose things get out of hand! I get called into the boss’s office and I’m thinking “Super sizing me,” and the boss says, “Downsize, clean out your desk.” Well I’ll get another job.

Time passes and unemployment is running out and I think maybe I should pray about this!

For no reason the wife gets sick and needs an operation, but I have lost my health insurance…. Maybe I should pray about this!

My friends don’t call anymore with invites to party, because we can’t reciprocate, we are broke, OH, and maybe I should … oh forget them!

My kids have starting hanging with the wrong crowd and will not obey me, maybe I should pray about this! I’m beginning to have doubts about my abilities, and no longer feel sure about anything anymore, maybe I should, begin to pray?

When things go wrong, the first thought that comes to mind is “Why?” or “Why me?”

The outstanding thing about problems is how it gets your attention; it brings things into focus that which was ignored before. One of the things often ignored is GOD and his place in your life.

To be ignored is the rankest form of contempt, and GOD doesn’t take kindly to it.

When trouble comes knocking, the first thing to look for is; Am I overlooking GOD in my life? Am I ignoring HIM as HE didn’t exist, pushing HIM off until the end of my life and then call upon HIM for my eternal state?

Vanity, vanity, all is vanity when you forget GOD. HE will get your attention, what ever it takes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzvvgmf7Cs8&feature=related

SEPARATING FACT FROM FANTASY

Within the Christian community the difference between fact and fantasy needs to be clearly known, unraveled and treated as such.

The inability to recognize the difference can lead to all kinds of errors that cause damage to the cause of Christ.

The one thing that drives us into fantasizing is the strong desire for the moving of the Spirit of GOD in our mist.

At times it seems that GOD is on HIS throne, but is just sitting there doing very little, as far as the miraculous is concerned. Such a statement could be considered blasphemous among many Christians but if you have never felt this way - - then you are excused from the rest of us.

Much of what is construed to being a move of the Spirit in meetings is little more than entertainment, and at best could be called “A mercy drop.” Anyone who is genuinely born again knows and is acquainted with the Spirit of GOD. Those who have been willing to receive the baptism into the Holy Spirit by Jesus, have a further knowledge of his presence and reality.

Years ago when visiting Yosemite Park we would wait for a man made spectacle called the fire fall. The granite cliffs were hundreds of feet high and as it got dark; when the command was given “Let the fire fall,” the burning coals were pushed over the edge, and cascaded down the cliffs in an entertaining sight.

There was a spectacular event that is recorded in first kings 18:17-39 where fire fell that was not man made but came from the throne of GOD. This resulted in those being destroyed who proclaimed that another god (Baal) was the real GOD.

There is another instance of Holy Spirit fire falling from heaven in Acts 2:1-4 where the key figures were filled with the Holy Spirit. While many analogies can be drawn from these scriptures one factor stands out and that is the fire fell where the sacrifice was.

(Rom. 12:1) "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service"

The purpose of presenting the sacrifice was so the fire had a place to be manifested.

When we present ourselves as a sacrifice unto the Lord we must reckon ourselves to be holy and acceptable unto HIM. Expect no fire to fall on the unacceptable. When the sacrifice isn’t wholly offered, and something is held back, something unworthy, the fire may be withheld and no amount of pleading will cause GOD to relent.

Some will pay the price and receive the genuine fire, while others will substitute fantasy for reality and only pretend.

86,400 SECONDS

There are 86,400 seconds in a day, starting when most are still asleep. If you get up at 6 o’clock one fourth of that time is already gone.

It will take another two hours to get up, get ready and be at work at eight o’clock. You just spent seventy two hundred seconds A few more - - and you are just getting out of the house.

If in fact we have "X" amount of seconds to live (save accidents) then perhaps we should plan more carefully how we allot our time in order to get the most out of life. We are almost forced to include both length and quality of life in the equation.

Neither Capitalism nor Socialism deal fairly with the value of life, any discrepancy in earning capacity exposes this unfair value system.

Why should a worker who works 10 hours a day in 100+ degree heat be worth less than a corporate head in an air conditioned office?

Some believe that the unions are fair for workers. The fact is that some union workers make minimum wage and others make 50 to 70 dollars per hour.

The measure of value consists of production only when it should include both production and mortality (average life span).

What I do when I am hired is, I not only sell my ability to perform but also I give them a segment of my life which is a limited asset.

The ability of some to sell their life segments for millions while others only get pennies for theirs is an unfair system, which we have been forced from childhood to accept as the norm.

The political leaders have the power tell us what our lives are worth. The life span of the slaves of the south and other countries had almost no personal value beyond daily sustenance, while the life of Massa in the big house had great value.

Since there is little we can to change the system, the best thing we can do is to plan carefully and make the most of the time we have.

I looked at the death clock and this is what it said about me.

"Based on our calculations you will die on: Friday, 16th July 2004
You will live to be 74 years, 7 months and 6 days old!"

Now I feel guilty for I should have been dead a long time ago.

UH OH

I just was remembering something that my Aunt Jesse told me when I was visiting her down in Georgia.

Aunt Jesse was a Baptist through and through and had some influence in her church. She relayed to me that the Pastor had preached on adultery for ten weeks, and the people were getting tired of hearing the same oration every Sunday. Well as it turned out after the tenth sermon on adultery, they caught him. Then they knew that it was self guilt that was driving him to repeatedly preach that way.

Any time you get indignant about certain issues in the life of others, it is always a good idea to check up on yourself to see if you have an eye problem.

Luke 6:42 How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you don't see the beam in your own eye? You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you'll see clearly enough to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

There is nothing wrong in trying to help someone who is missing the mark, but be sure you are hitting the mark yourself, and then only if you can do so without an air of superiority.

So my fellow bloggers be sure you are not just airing out your own problems and using them in order to avoid dealing with your short comings. And that goes double for me.

(2 Samuel 12:1-7 KJV) "And The Lord sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, there were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor. The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds: But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter. And there came a traveler unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man's lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him. And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the Lord liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die: And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity. And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man."

Lyrics:
Don't you look at me so smug, and say I'm going bad.
Who are you to judge me, and the life that I live?
I know that I'm not perfect, And that I don't claim to be.
So before you point your fingers, be sure your hands are clean
Judge not, before you judge yourself. Judge not
If you're not ready for judgment. Whoa oh oh!
And you may stumble too. So while you talk about me, some-one else is judging you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHkt3iatFcs&feature=related

PUPPY LOVE

Love and caring for their family is the first priority for most people are aware that there are many other things that make up their life.

For me, after family, the good things, the things that give me joy, and get most of my attention, are my truck and my puppies.

My dogs rank very high on my list of must have things. I raised all of them from about two months old, and they think my wife and I are their mom and dad. When they were very small puppies, and were outside in our yard, I had to watch over them closely because the birds of prey were always around looking for a tasty meal.

I was thinking just how well they have gotten me trained; because they get about everything they want. From the time when they were little pups and are so cute they drew me to them and I so enjoyed being with them. Now they are older and exercise a measure of control over me, but that is the way life works.

Small things grow into controlling factors and mold us into a composite of; at times contradictory statements (outward expressions) of who we actually are.

The Christian is the perfect example of oxymoronism when they fail the, “Self discovery” test of who they are in Christ and have difficulty in accepting the facts of their new creation reality.

The controlling factors of the old life want to maintain their dominance over the Christian. This struggle is common to a greater or lesser degree in all new born Christians. Paul dealt with this in the book of Romans.

Romans 7:15 I don't really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don't do it. Instead, I do what I hate.

The sin nature is dealt with by the new birth but propensity toward sinning is controlled by being led by the Spirit of GOD. Christianity should never be boring for we are challenged to walk uprightly moment by moment while being aware that a sin opportunity is just around the corner. Sin is multifaceted, it is a one size fits all, and there is something for everybody

Paul pointed out some of the things the Galatians should avoid at all costs.

Gal 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, promiscuity, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, rivalry, jealously, outbursts of anger, quarrels, conflicts, factions, envy, murder, drunkenness, wild partying, and things like that.

Most of these things are blatant and easy to understand but the last four words are the ones you need to watch out for and that is; “AND things like that”.

Things that may be associated with legitimate activities, things that are not sin but lead to sin.

Granted we are not perfect but that doesn't excuse us from avoiding sin at all costs for though it can be forgiven it will always leave a stain behind. What started in the garden continued outside the gates of Eden?

Genesis 4:6-7 Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? "If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it."

I enjoyed this example by one writer:
For several days a large black cat appeared on our front porch and every time we opened the door it tried to get into the house. I named that cat “Sin” and tried to teach this lesson to our children.

Like this cat, sin is ready to enter our lives any time, if we give it an opportunity, it is “Crouching at the door” of our lives.

Though temptation is ever present and powerful, God created us with the ability to choose and in His word, the Bible, He gives us guidance and power to resist temptation and to “rule over” sin.

When the temptation to sin comes there is also the power of choice that comes with it (a way of escape). The walk in the spirit means; allow your spirit to be in ascendancy over your soul and then the right choice will be assured.

SO MANY VOICES, SO LITTLE TRUTH

There is much confusion within the body of Christ as to what is the TRUTH.

First we consider the old line denominations and we find there much disagreement as to doctrines concerning; baptisms, communion, marriage, priests versus bishops, pastors and lay ministers or whether ministers can be a woman, a homosexual, or a very young person.

The multiplicity of issues loom large and are divisive and has neutered the church to the point that new births have been greatly minimized and bastards (not sons) are welcomed, and have been accepted as members and leaders.

The scriptures have admonished us act as the body of Christ and not as independent assemblies. This will never happen as long the diverse ideology rules.

The permissive doctrine of universal acceptance of persons regardless of spiritual condition will scarcely be able to withstand the onslaught of the enemies of the church, but rather they will use the “If you can’t beat them, join them” attitude.

The so called present day spiritual battles being fought are over reinterpreting the church articles of faith and those who resist this new found permissiveness either have to leave or conform.

There is a sifting going on and those who stand for righteousness are out voted and characterized as intolerant. The departure of hundreds of congregations from some main line Denominations is weakening them in numbers, but is strengthening them in spirituality, which is a good trade off.

Knowing these things can be discouraging to the individual Christian unless you keep before you this truth; that the church of JESUS CHRIST is composed of believers who are united by union with Christ through the new birth and the renewing of the Holy Ghost.

No denomination, no political power, no spiritual force can separate us from the Church of JESUS CHRIST, for we are one in the spirit and we are one body.

The Church's one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord;
She is his new creation, by water and the word:
From heaven he came and sought her to be his holy bride;
With his own blood he bought her, and for her life he died

EXCUSES

We live in an excuse driven world.

If you don't want to do something, one excuse is as good as another. ~Yiddish Proverb

An excuse is…. Well, with a little effort you could turn it into a lie. They are ultra functional, they fit every occasion, and are certainly not prejudicial. Any and everyone may employ them.

We excuse our sloth under the pretext of difficulty.
~Marcus Fabius Quintilian

How strange to use "You only live once" as an excuse to throw life away.
~Bill Copeland

He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else.
~Benjamin Franklin

Never ruin an apology with an excuse. ~Kimberly Johnson

"I wasn't using my phone. I was just resting my head against it!"

Cop, “I stopped a car in a rural area of our county for going 80 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. The driver explained that he had a bee flying around his head so he sped up to 80, hoping that the bee couldn't fly that fast and would not be able to fly out of the back seat area to get at him.”

Even with multiple warnings we still try to excuse ourselves. Is an excuse an admission of failure and hoping to get sympathy from a fellow traveler?

As the world stands today there is an acceptance of excuses as being normal, it avoids telling the truth and cannot be construed to be an outright lie.

But, in the kingdom of GOD different rules apply. If we are not careful we will forget that there is only right and wrong with nothing in between; no excuses allowed.

The Omnis’ have us, the Omnipresence. Omniscience, Omnipotence leaves no wiggle room. God is all knowing, all powerful, and everywhere. You might as well admit you are wrong for he knows it already; an excuse would only offend GOD.

Serving GOD requires one to be opened faced, nothing hid, and obedience in all things. It is called in scripture “walking in the spirit or being led by the spirit.” Check it out, look at it as this way; this is the road where “all things work together for good”.

Why serve GOD after one has secured heaven as your heavenly home? Perhaps this is beyond me to fully explain. But there are a many reasons to consider, you were born again to serve, and that only. You are a servant of GOD.

Heaven is your home, but let us suppose you came home, and the house was empty, nary a thing in it, not even dust. You are home but it would be nice if you had some amenities to make it more habitable. The amenities are earned by service (work and faithfulness).

Let’s assume you went to your favorite hamburger place and the guy in front of you ordered a burger deluxe, with three patties, lettuce, tomato, favorite dressing and sesame seed bun, added French fries, a coke, onion rings and ketchup. And for desert he orders a big slice of pie with ice cream. He receives his order and proceeds to his table.

Then you step up and say I will have the same as the last man has.

A few minutes later the server brings you order but all you got was a plain bun. No meat or taters or coke or pie. Both go to the same place and both expect the same satisfaction but one does without.

2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

This will bring either good news or bad, either the deluxe burger or the bun. If this is remotely true it would behoove us to walk circumspectly before GOD.

Revelations 22:12 "Behold, I am coming quickly, and my reward is with me, to render to every man according to what he has done.

So there you have it.

I need to remind myself the recompense of reward requires service. No service and unrighteous living, no reward, - - faithful service, good reward.  Isn’t it nice for GOD to allow us to decide which reward will be ours?

WHO DO MEN SAY THAT I AM?

Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"

And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."

He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.

This is a question I need to revisit often, because it always touches and challenges my whole mind set; my functioning or as some might say what makes me tick.

I need to affirm and answer the question as if Christ was asking me; “Who do you say I am?” And my answer is relayed, "You are the Christ the Son of the living GOD." This is my testimony to my belief in the Holy Trinity and that Jesus is God and my LORD.

It was obvious to Peter that Jesus was in human form for he was with him for three and one half years. The eating, drinking and the necessary elimination that was natural for men were evidence to that fact. Just affirming my faith in Him as Deity elevates Him in my inner man and lifts me up to a higher realm.

Jesus said to Peter; “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.”

The FATHER also revealed to me through the preaching of the words of Jesus that Jesus was the Christ (the Messiah).

A Bible instructor once poised the question; “Who do men say you are?” Then he went further to say, “Who do you say you are?”

Some will spend a lifetime trying to answer those two questions. Others discover that before people can know who you are you must find out for yourself - - who you are, until then you will be traveling under false I.D. The real you will be hidden and you will be disguised as someone else.

The road to self discovery is found in GOD’S word, the important thing is; who does GOD say you are, for he knows who you really are?

Start with the knowledge that you are a child of GOD that gives you identity. Your attributes; I am the righteousness of GOD in Christ, a new creation, this road to self discovery need not be a long trip, but it is a road of acceptance of the real you.

The only reason you have struggles in your spiritual walk is because you haven't accepted who you are IN Christ. You will only manifest the real you after you discover you are accepted in the beloved, and have also accepted the fact of who you are IN Christ.

THE PARADOX

Some questions have tricky terminology: "Is the answer to this question NO?"

In this case, if you replied no, you would be stating that the answer is NOT NO.

If you reply yes, you are stating that it is NO, because you said yes.

"This statement is false"— if the statement is true, and the selection of “the statement is false,” thereby the answer has made the statement true.

Another example of vicious circularity is the following statements:

"The statement below is false."

"The statement above is true.”

Other paradoxes involve false statements or half-truths and the resulting biased assumptions.

For example, consider a situation in which a father and his son are driving down the road. The car collides with a tree and the father is killed. The boy is rushed to the nearest hospital where he is prepared for emergency surgery. On entering the surgery suite, the surgeon says, "I can't operate on this boy. He's my son."

The above are a few examples of the use of the paradox; the one of interest is false statements or half truths resulting in bias assumptions.

One of the ERRORIONIOUS examples today is the ASSUMPTION THAT ALL RELIGIONS ARE EQUAL.

The equalization of gods is absolutely forbidden by JEHOVAH for HE declares he is the only GOD. No nation can legislate and make a law to change that and any that try will have to face an angry GOD. In doing so they are acting as if they honor GOD by exalting false gods.

"For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul?"

Though simply stated; man’s entire future existence revolves around these questions and the answers to them. To my knowledge there was only one man who actually fully faced this dilemma, for no one else had the potential of gaining the whole world, and that man was Christ.

Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory; and he said to Him, “All these things I will give you, if you fall down and worship me." Then Jesus said to him, “Go, Satan! For it is written, ‘YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.’” Then the devil left Him; and behold, angels came and began to minister to Him."

The answer Jesus gave was concise, all encompassing, and final. Most of us will never receive such an offer of that magnitude but will be offered a small portion of it. The captivating forces are known as the seven deadly sins of wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony.

These seven sins are the weapons of Satan’s warfare, designed to render the Christian useless in the kingdom of GOD. Who is subject to these sins?

Everyone who names the name of Christ, and if you are a believer it includes YOU. What to do; Ephesians 6 has the answer, Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil, but it is a got to do it issue.
